Forty-Two ROSE DOESN’T FIND THE situation as funny as Helen and I do. She turns on Charlie and screams, “You tell that pencil-neck little s**t computer expert you hired to fix this!” Charlie scurries out of the room to follow Rose’s order. Having dispatched him, Rose turns on us. I’m standing next to Helen—actually, by this time, Helen is holding me up. She opens her mouth to say something when there’s a rumble somewhere nearby. Rose and her goons look in the direction of the noise. Helen whispers to me, “I think the cavalry’s coming.” “Go see what that is,” Rose says. The goons head for the door, but she says, “Wait, one of you give me your gun.” Goon 1 hands his pistol over to her and they quickly exit.
