Eduardo’s Pov
The death of Rizvan, ruler of the Batukayev pack was more than shocking. Who would have known he would be brutally murdered that way. Drego, my Beta had let out such a concerning news to me immediately I walked out from the unbearing elders from the dining.
This was a lot to handle, I had almost secure a deal on oil trading with the Batukayev pack and now, Rizvan just couldn’t wait before getting the contract signed. I rumpled my hair in frustration aside that, they all seem to want me to be with that stranger all because of their belief. Mates? I scoffed.
At that moment, my thoughts revisited the events of the previous night, confirming that Melissa was indeed the one whose pheromones I had breathed in. If she is indeed my mate, it raised the question: Why was she present in the eastern forest, on the borders between the Batukayev and Lockwood packs?
However, pondering her presence at the eastern forest bordering the Batukayev and Lockwood packs intrigued me. Melissa, the daughter of Luna Delilah Holloway of the Green pack in the distant western forest, held a unique status as the first woman to rule a pack.
She’s the daughter of the great Luna Delilah Holloway of the Green pack located deep in the western forest known for greatest produce in textiles and clothing. The first woman to rule over a pack.
From what I quite remember the western forest and eastern forest was in no way close to each other. So what could she have been there for?
I turned pack to Drego, who seemed to be going through a scroll, probably filled with my schedule for the day.
“Drego” I called, gaining his attention.
“Yes”
“I see you have forgotten the use of formal language” I teased.
“And I remember your persistent pleading to treat you as a friend and not as the future Alpha of our pack” Drego responded.
True. I’ve known Drego from childhood, he was assigned to be my beta just like his father and my father. The formality between us had dropped before it began.
I huffed at Drego’s response before I continued “find out more about Melissa” I stated. I needed to know who she is, even though I was definitely going to reject her.
Without any questions Drego nodded. I took a puff out from the cigarette in my hand, letting nicotine hit my nerves. I eased my shoulders until those pheromones hit my nose covering the smoke from the cigarette.
"Find out more about Melissa," I instructed, despite my predetermined decision to reject her.
Without any questions Drego nodded. I took a puff out from the cigarette in my hand, letting nicotine hit my nerves. I eased my shoulders until those pheromones hit my nose covering the smoke from the cigarette. This time, her pheromones seemed stronger and more hot. It stirred up my inner wolf as a sense of possession washed over me.
I immediately knew what was happening as she dashed out of the pack house m, heading to goddess knows where. Even with the pheromones choking me and trying to get me chase after her, I took bigger puffs from the smoke, tapping my foot on to the ground.
“Do you want me to go after her” Drego stated. He seemed to already know what was happening, even without his ability to sense pheromones.
“ No” I responded
“I’ll go myself”
Probably a very stupid decision I made, but I could reject her right now, I could trade with her and get what I want. I stretched out my bones, letting my wolf out as my clothes ripped off my body, I chased after the lavender scent.
Nevertheless, upon arrival, someone appeared to have intentions toward her before I did. An indescribable impulse took over me as I surged at the male, scratching his neck. It seemed he recognized me, seeing as he fled in fear.
Slowly I let myself shift back as I lifted Melissa, placing her over my shoulders. It seemed for the first time I was going to win against the goddess.
And just like that I had Melissa tied up as she groaned in pain, unleashing my pheromones, I expected her to submit, but her resistance persisted. “Accept my rejection” I commanded. Yet, her silence persisted, signaling her endurance through pain.
Determination surged within me—I wouldn't allow my parents to find another pretext for separating Ayza and me. If extracting the truth meant resorting to drastic measures, so be it.
With a swift kick, the chair I sat on clattered aside. Patience wore thin. Extracting the knife from my back pocket, I aimed it menacingly at Melissa’s throat.
"I don't want to be with you. ‘I’m in love with someone else, and we're expecting our pup. Let's end this now, while I'm still being considerate," I warned. Her tear-laden eyes and the sadness that engulfed her spoke volumes. Despite her mouth being tied, she managed to groan loudly, the weight of the situation evident in every sound.
Despite the surge of guilt and betrayal stirring within me, I couldn't force myself to love her. From the moment I inhaled her pheromones, everything about her felt wrong.
Harshly, I pulled the cello tape covering her mouth giving her a chance to speak.
“Let’s make this easy for both of us. I reject you, Melissa Holloway as my mate” I stated. My heart was beating fast as I awaited her reply. Despite the pain, she managed to keep her eye firm on mine, intriguing me.
The silence seemed to be the only response she could offer, and it was starting to irritate me. In anger, I slit her lower thigh, causing her to scream. The weight on my chest intensified as Melissa screamed in pain, but I tried to dismiss it as non-concern.
"f**k!" I cursed in frustration.
"Eduardo," I heard Drego call, taking faster steps toward me. Unusual. Drego didn't walk fast. His face remained expressionless, making it difficult to gauge the situation.
"Ayza is in trouble."
My eyes widened at Drego's words. I couldn't wait to figure out exactly what trouble she was in; all I wanted at the moment was to see her, forgetting about the tied-up Melissa in the warehouse.
I dashed outside, throwing the knife to the ground as I headed to the pack house.
I thought I had lost my cool the moment Drego said those words, but now I was beyond losing my cool, seeing Ayza laid on a stretcher as she was rushed into the pack clinic.
"Alpha Eduardo, it will be best if you leave us to our duty," Eleanor, the pack doctor, advised. She was right; Ayza's health was the priority, and panicking wouldn't solve anything. So, I nodded to Eleanor as she drew the hospital curtain closed.
"If only she had stayed out of the pack house."
The words from behind caught my attention, causing me to turn to two nurses who stood behind me. Their heads bowed as I focused on them.
"What did you say?" I questioned, rage slowly bubbling in me. A low growl escaped as I watched them exchange fearful looks.
"Repeat what you said!!" I growled.
"Lady Ayza found out about the sealed marriage contract between you and the first daughter of the Holloway family," one nurse stammered.
To confirm what the nurse had stated, Drego passed me a scroll. Indeed, it was a sealed marriage contract.
"Eliminate her," I commanded Drego in a low tone.
"I beg your pardon, sir."
"Kill Melissa."
