DIA HEADQUARTERS—ANACOSTIA, DCI drifted awake the next morning out of a sensuous dream where I was wrapped in Mac’s arms, protected from the entire world. My eyes came into focus just inches from Jennifer’s face. She was still sleeping, breathing softly, her breath sweet and fresh. I can’t really explain why, but I moved closer and kissed her lips gently. She moaned quietly, still asleep, and parted her lips. On impulse, I pressed my lips to hers, probing gently with my tongue.
