So you're the decent girl father wanted him to get married to?” He asked moving closer with a small smile. “Such a small world, I can't believe alot happened while I was away.”
I glared at him with disdain my eyes. “You are clearly not important that's why nobody bothered to tell you.”
He stared at me like he was taken aback. “Oh wow. Never knew you had a sharp mouth. Has Robin been feeding you such heavy lies about me?”
Why was he acting like we didn't have history?
He moved closer to me and for the very first time, I noticed the striking similarity he bore to Robin. They both had the same cupidbow lips, pointed nose but one thing was clear — Robin was the finer version.
“Answer?” he move closer with a coy smile and I pulled away, my face scrunched.
“Does he have to tell me anything? Didn't you cheat one me with my best friend?” I snapped.
“It's your fault, you were too boring.”
He sighed, holding my hands as I froze. “But now, we can make it work. I don't think you're over me yet.” he held my chin and stared down at me with those blue eyes that I was fell in love with. Ge just taken my silence for acquiescence with the way he continued. “We can both help each other here, my cousin just got a large fortune transferred onto him, you can help us get the money—”
I pushed him away. “I will do no such thing!” My voice yelled out throughout the room.
“Benny?” I heard Robin call out against my panting and Dave's eyes darkened and he hissed as he proceeded to leave. He wasn't fast enough as Robin lounged towards him and gave him a hard blow. He staggered, attempting to get hold of furious Robin who booted him as he gasped, dropping to the ground.
“You stupid fool!” Dave groaned, his eyes tightly shut in pain.
When Robin hands touched me, he stared into my eyes with concern. “He didn't touch you right?”
I shook my head, my heart still beating fast.
“Good, let's go.” He continued holding my hands as we walked out of the bathroom, ignoring Dave that writhed in pain.
“What about him?” I asked.
“I don't care about him.”
“So, if we go back there what do we say?”
Robin paused and regarded me briefly. “Maybe you should go back there and show him how much you care about him?”
“I'd rather not.” I replied.
“Good.” As we talked, I noticed Robin was passing another route. I squinted my eyes, confused, but I kept on following him.
“We're leaving.” The statement relived me more than words could express.
**
I slumped into my bed, relieving the memories of the night before I slept. The next morning as my foot echoed against the quietness of the house, I realised I was the only one at home. I wondered why neither of the maids has resumed work today, maybe Robin had given them a break. Soon the doors started to slowly open and I turned my head backwards.
My eyes widened at the person I saw. “What are you doing here?” I asked. “And how did you get the keys.”
Leila, Robin's ex burst out laughing as she adjusted her glasses. “Isn't it obvious? I've always had the keys because he loves me.” She finished with a wink.
“But he's married now?” I tilted my head at her and shrugged. “Well, make yourself comfortable.”
I knew girls like her that couldn't let go of their ex. I couldn't let the words of Someone like her get to me.
Leila moved closer to me, taking off her shades, her perfume overpowering. “You know you don't mean anything to him right? I have him where I want him and it's best for you to be on my goodside.”
“Okay?” I raised my brows at her. “So tell me, what do I really need you for?”
I could see her cheeks turn red with anger. She was definitely not expecting that question of mine.
“I wonder what kind of a woman you are that settled for someone else's man and you still have the guts to be proud about it. You're shameless.”
If only she knew that I never would have been here if it weren't for my father.
“Listen, it's not my fault that he never considered marrying you. If he were serious with you, he should have married you long before I came into the picture.”
“Long before you came into the picture?” She chuckled. “Or long before you seduced him. f*****g prostitute.” My heartbeat were the only sounds I could hear. My hands started to shake as I blinked rapidly. So he had told her about what happened that night?
She must have noticed how her words had struck a never with the way she repeated the f*****g prostitute and walked away.
I shook my head. “I'm not a prostitute.” I said the words slowly like I was convincing myself. That night was the biggest mistake of my life and I never thought I would hear about it from rival's mouth apparently.
I wondered what Robin must have told her about me. The moment he spoke about using me as a revenge tool, I knew I shouldn't have trusted him. I blinked away the tears that threatened to fall off.
I walked back to my room and suddenly felt this overwhelming need to throw up. I rushed towards the bathroom and my legs felt weak. This place would never be my home, I was exhausted already. I started pack my clothes into a small box and made the decision to do something father would not approve of.
