It’s been five years since that fateful night. Five years since Natasha heard about the plot by Luka’s family to kill her. Nat didn’t think of Luka Volkov as her father anymore. Not after everything that has happened. What she had to endure at that place. In reality, he hadn’t been her father for a very long time.
Nat still kept her old email open, and she read all of the emails that Liliana and Penelope sent her over the years. Ignoring her only true friends is the only thing she feels guilt over. The emails have trickled down over the years. Natasha will generally get around five every year from Liliana and Penelope. While she made a new life for herself, Nat looks forward to those emails more than words can express. The senders of those e-mails were her true family. Her birthday was coming up, and she should be getting a birthday email.
Nat did email her mother to let her know she was alive and safe. Nat told her mother that after everything she went through at the hands of the Volkov, this was the last straw.
Nat hadn’t responded to her mother since then, she still felt bitterness toward her mother as well. Her mother knew was was going on, but it took her five years to get her out of that place. Nat knew she shouldn’t judge her mother too harshly, but she couldn’t help the feelings of betrayal that swept over her every time she thought of her parents. Svetlana had gone through plenty at the hands of the Volkov family as well. It was still nothing compared to her. She still had the scars to prove it.
Natasha had left her father's coven, sent that email to Liliana, and then vanished. She glamoured herself so she looked like someone else so no one except another witch who could recognize her magic would recognize her. A witch’s magic was like a fingerprint, and only someone who knew Nat’s magic could find her now. That list was relatively small.
Natasha sent that email to Liliana because she and Alpha Killian were going to become the most powerful werewolf family the world had ever seen. It wasn’t because Callum was an original alpha. It was because they were chosen by the moon Goddess.
Natasha had started having visions when she was young. They started as dreams, but a lot of them revolved around werewolves. Nat knew a war was coming, she just didn’t know who would survive. The downside of the visions is she didn’t get to control them, at least not yet. Nat was still young for being a witch, she could live for thousands of years.
.
Being free from her father's family she did what she told Liliana she always dreamed of doing. She went to college. Natasha had watched trashy TV with The Braxton sisters like Supernatural, The Witcher, and AHS. The two of them would talk about after graduation. While Nat knew she had to join the coven training, she didn’t want to. Nat wanted to be a human and go to college.
So that’s what she did, she faked her name and enrolled in Oxford. Nat had always dreamed of going to Trinity College in Dublin when she was young, that library would make anyone fall in love. However, six months before she found her father’s wick plotting to kill her, she put in a transfer. Nat not only put in a transfer to a different coven but one to the McGregor coven in Ireland.
It was a huge slap in the face to her father, and Nat knew it, she was just done. All coven transfers are public knowledge. If Natasha had made a transfer to any weaker coven her father could have made several different arguments to stop her from leaving. One the coven wasn’t able to challenge her, academically, two it wasn’t good enough as the Volkov coven. So the only option for Nat to be able to leave her own personal hell was to go to the McGregors. The coven is older than the Volkov’s and had the same if not better facilities.
You can say what you want about the HP universe but the author got a lot right about a witch’s training. Unless the witch is a prodigy or the next coven leader the training will start at twelve years old. The belief is that this is when powers within the human body start emerging.
However, a witch's training lasts so much longer than seven years. There are so many factors that go into how long a witch will be at the coven academy. The general answer a person gives to a non-witch is around twenty years. This number is very general and for someone best described as my mother. Svetlana had no knowledge of her magical abilities, but showed great talent. Nat’s mother spent twenty years in the Volkov’s coven learning everything there was to know about magic, and it took her twenty years.
Someone like her friend Alexei whose both parents were witches, and who had been practicing spells his whole life. He could have left the academy by the time he was eighteen. Natasha didn’t know what had happened to him, and honestly, she didn’t want to know.
Whenever she thought of Alexei her heart filled with a painful throb, and she unconsciously scratched her arm through her long sleeve shirt. The boy who once had been her best and only friend had turned into her biggest bully once they reached the academy. Witches, especially within the Volkov coven were elitist and stuck up.
Her mom had thought that the academy would be a nice change of pace for her. Svetlana forgot that kids could be crueler than adults. It wasn’t long after Nat had arrived at the academy her father had met his wick. Her grandfather's prediction came true, and while Julie pretended to accept Natasha in front of her father Julie called her полукровка the second his back was turned. Julie also spread the word throughout the witch community that Natasha was to be shunned.
Julie being the new coven leader wick was to be appeased so the families made sure their children at the academy did not go near her. It wasn’t long after the bullying started. Natasha didn’t want to think about the next few years at that place. The worst being the professors knowing that Natasha was being bullied and didn’t do anything about it. Hell, they didn’t even let her father know, because they agreed with Julie. She was an abomination, dirty blood. Natasha thought about those years in the academy as being the worst in her short life as they were. She had contemplated ending it many times. The move to the Midnight Howlers Pack saved her soul in so many ways. That pack gave her something to live for, a family, and direction.

When Nat graduated from Oxford in History she decided to move to Edinburgh. Nat discovered a love for history she got a degree in history. Then with the help of magic, she found herself a nice flat and got herself a job giving city tours to tourists. Nat was happy with her life, even if it was lonely. Which is why she liked working with tourest. Natasha was content as she wasn’t being constantly tormented.
Little did she know that was all about to change on her next birthday.
Authors note: the chapter Bewitched in the failed rejection is where Natasha we get her first and only POV we do get Luka’s here and there in that book, but this is nat’s story
