Chapter Four – The Battle of Bad Notes
The Maestro flicked his baton, and the enchanted orchestra sprang to life — violins playing themselves, drums thumping in midair, and a flute that appeared to be side-eyeing Elric.
“Prepare,” the Maestro declared, “for the Symphony of Shame!”
The first wave of Truth Fog swept across the stage, curling around Sir Buttons.
“🎵 I once glued my armor shut so I wouldn’t have to fight! 🎵” he blurted before clamping his mouth shut in horror.
Elric tried to sidestep the fog, but it curled toward him like a nosy aunt. “Nope,” he said, holding up his picnic basket as a shield. “If destiny wants my secrets, it’s going to have to wrestle me for them.”
Tara conjured a counterspell, summoning a chorus of ghostly backup singers to drown out the Maestro’s magic. But the Maestro grinned. “Ah, a duet!” he sang, and his baton sent the violins into a dramatic solo that blasted her spell apart.
Grunk the ogre leapt into the fray, wielding… a lute. “You want music?” he bellowed. “Try this!” He strummed a terrible chord that sounded like a cat fighting a thunderstorm. The shockwave knocked the Maestro’s hair slightly out of place.
“Monster!” the Maestro gasped, clutching his comb.
Elric finally stepped forward. “Alright, fine,” he said, tossing aside his tart. “If I win, you end this fog. If you win… I’ll sing my secrets for the whole kingdom.”
The Maestro’s grin widened. “Deal.”
The music swelled, the fog thickened, and the battle began — not with swords or spells, but with a duel of verses.
