WEDDING WEEK TROUBLE

--- Arabella: learning she doesn't need to perform wellness to deserve love Soren: learning that care ≠ control Adriana & Beckett: the observers who see the truth early and intervene intelligently Tone: intimate, restrained, emotionally mature No new external drama yet - the tension is internal and relational --- Wedding dress fitting room, late afternoon. The room smells faintly of fabric spray and flowers. Arabella is sitting, shoes kicked off, scrolling but not really reading. Adriana notices before Arabella says anything. --- Adriana (casual, precise): "You're compensating." Arabella blinks. Looks up. "Am I?" Adriana nods once. "You've made three jokes since you sat down. You only do that when you're overwhelmed." Arabella exhales through her nose. Half-smiles. "I'm fine." Adriana doesn't argue. She sits beside her instead. "I know. That's not what I said." A beat. Arabella leans her head back against the mirror. "I don't want to ruin anything." Adriana turns slightly toward her. "You won't." "It feels like I might," Arabella admits quietly. "Like... if I c***k, it'll spill everywhere." Adriana's voice softens - not pity, not alarm. Just clarity. "You're not fragile. You're human. There's a difference." Arabella swallows. "And Soren?" Adriana continues gently. "He's watching you like he's waiting for the floor to drop." Arabella smiles, sad but fond. "He cares." "I know," Adriana says. "Just make sure he knows you don't need saving to be worthy of it." Arabella nods. That lands. --- BECKETT & SOREN Setting: Outside the venue, evening. Cold air. Steam from their breath. Soren is checking his phone - again. Beckett notices. --- Beckett: "You've checked that twice in under a minute." Soren pockets it. "She's been quiet." Beckett tilts his head. "Quiet isn't danger. You're treating it like a system failure." Soren frowns. "I'm just being attentive." "No," Beckett says calmly. "You're being preventative." That stops him. "You're anticipating pain so you can intercept it," Beckett continues. "That's not listening. That's management." Soren exhales sharply. "I'm trying to help." "I know," Beckett says. "But she doesn't want a project manager. She wants a partner." A beat. Wind whistles past. Beckett adds, softer now: "You don't have to earn your place by fixing everything. You already belong." Soren looks away. That one hits. --- SCENE 3: SMALL MOMENT - THE WATCHING Purpose: Show Soren trying to adjust. Setting: Touring Iceland, daytime. Arabella laughs with a guide, animated, bright. Soren watches - but this time, he doesn't interrupt. Doesn't hover. Doesn't ask if she's okay. Arabella notices. Later, quietly, she squeezes his hand. Arabella (teasing): "You didn't ask if I needed a jacket." Soren smiles faintly. "I'm learning restraint." She grins. "Proud of you." But that night, when she's alone, the exhaustion catches up. And Soren doesn't see it. --- SCENE 4: THE SPIRAL (UNSEEN) Important: This is not chaos. This is quiet self-erasure. Setting: Late night. Hotel bar. Low lighting. Arabella is radiant. Too radiant. She laughs easily. Makes strangers feel special. Carries the emotional weight of the room like she always does. Inside, she's hollow. When she leaves, she doesn't tell anyone. And this time - Soren doesn't follow. Not because he doesn't care. Because he's trying not to smother. This is where the tragedy almost happens. --- SCENE 5: AFTERMATH - THE TRUTH BETWEEN THEM Setting: Hotel room, night. After the doctor. After the fear. They lie together, quiet. Her head on his chest. --- Soren (voice tight): "I thought if I loved you right, nothing bad would happen." Arabella lifts her head slightly. "That's not how love works." "I know," he says. "But I wanted it to." She touches his jaw. Grounds him. "I don't need you to save me," she says softly. "I need you to stay." Soren swallows. "I can do that." She smiles, tired but real. "Good. Because I love you - not the version of you that fixes everything. Just you." He closes his eyes. Finally lets go. ---
