Chapter SixIvana and Nanny were in the drawing room before dinner when the Marquis came in.
Ivana felt a little guilty, as she had not seen him since the previous day and had not gone to the dinner that she had been invited to.
At the last moment she had thought that it would be a mistake for her to attend.
She had sent a message through Smith to explain that both she and Mrs. Bell had eaten something that had disagreed with them at luncheontime and they were therefore unable to accept his kind invitation.
Now, as he advanced down the room, she realised that he was dressed for going to the Prince Regent’s party.
He was wearing evening clothes and there were a number of decorations which glittered in the light streaming in through the window from the setting sun.
