Dinner ends up being a fatty roast with chopped carrots and skinless potatoes, halves of garlic, some rosemary, and all of it drizzled in a red wine sauce. Jonah has never enjoyed roast but he sits with his family (minus Bill) around the dining room table and muddles through the meal, working down the sides: buttered peas, sausage-and-corn stuffing, ambrosia, and twelve-grain bread. Between bites of beef, Bobo looks at Jonah and Sandy, waves an empty fork at the pair, and mumbles, “Where did you two go this afternoon?” “I…I…” Jonah attempts to reach for a reply, fails. “None of your business, Bobo!
