Sandy sits with the Icicles at the cramped kitchen table and enjoys a stack of pancakes covered in three pats of butter and what looks like a gallon of syrup. Concerned about the weather, Jonah exits the room and heads through the dining room and enters the living room. He steps over three sleeping bags, blankets, a variety of pillows, and stands near the front, large bay window where the Christmas tree once stood. He can no longer see the Christmas tree in the front yard. Somewhere under the heaping and white snow is the decoration, lost but not forgotten. So much snow has fallen in the last few hours that Willa’s and Bobo’s Leaf can barely be seen in the driveway. A snowdrift camouflages the vehicle.
