being niceShe'd only get herself a better clue if she could see, for herself.
And Daniel was worst for real. Nancy had cried so much and just then at the bus station, she began receiving an after effect of the unpleasant moments at Daniel's house. Hunched over her hand bag she fumbled with the zip, but her massive heart attack was much severe and wouldn't let her hand stop trembling as she struggled with the zipper. That was when Amber Barrie came into the picture.
Just as the bus everyone had been waiting for, had arrived and all getting in, with the inpatient driver almost about to drive off. Amber debated in leaving or helping the poor Nancy, sitting alone on the bus station bench. And lastly she'd succumbed to helping Nancy Spencer.
"May i?" Nancy stared up to see the tall blonde lady beaming her a pitiful smile. She wearily nodded and Amber had taken the bag. And unzipped it, with the three bottles of the cardiac pills, the only prominent thing in her bag; Amber needn't be told what and why Nancy wanted desperately to open that bag.
"Wait a sec" Amber said scuttling off to a minimart and arriving back almost at same time with a bottle of water. She helped Nancy with the pills and placed it on her palms, following the prescription boldly written on it's bottle. Amber stayed with Nancy till she regained herself. And just about that first meeting, Nancy was head over heels with her. Her next move after that day was match making her with Steve.
Steve could recall, it've been Nancy's way ever since he was jilted by Summer Gray. Summer Gray was the b***h that had caused him one of his several heart breaks. Though he knew she was notorious with her attitude of dating and dumping guys, Yet! That fateful country Tuesday of October that She walked up to him with the brightest smile "Steve Spencer could you go out on a date with me" Steve could have known better than accept yet he nodded with a jaunty smile "Why not" it was like an opportunity he have been waiting for all his life. Summer was hot in bed, she made him feel so much like a real man. And he'd thought it was a miracle, that for the first time, Sumner was in a relationship with a guy for over five months, and he was the lucky guy. Maybe that was why he went miles to preparing a proposal to her to be his girlfriend in a much official way.
That was on 14th February, Valentine's day. He made to have her surprised and prepared it in a grand way, though not involving his pals. And that was so lucky of him, not to have had anyone else involved, because summer literally shocked him with her new date. It was a ruddy complexioned Anglo-american that felt so special as she cuddled him in Steve's presence. She'd come up to his table holding the guy closely. And boldly saying to Steve that it was nice playing him.
"I felt so hooked down. Because you were so sweet but then I said no summer, you have got to have a change, you don't deserve a bore forever" she giggled and pulled her new guy close kissing him before Steve. "And then I found this new honey bunny he's so full of surprises and I guess that's what I want. He has a convertible and would buy me one too. Right baby" Summer asked us he nuzzled her "sure baby".
"So scram, it's over Steve Spencer" she screamed to his face, that you could have slapped her face hard. But he'd stupidly stood.
"It can't be summer, what about all we had together huh? okay fine try forgetting me" he dragged summer, pulling her close and kissing her passionately, till he've heard heard her moan. Or was that merely an assumption as she'd squeezed herself loose from him and slapped him twice on both cheeks.
"Don't you ever try to get in anyway into my decision. IT IS OVER SPENCER" she looked flustered."let's go" she beckoned on the new guy who grimaced at Steve with an impression boldly scrawled on his face 'suits you right'.
Steve blames summer for every other heartbreaks, cos after that day, more heartbreaks came his way. His dad eloped with that God forsaken brunette that was no way better than his mum. He felt so down and alone, isolating himself from more peers and keeping a few. He lost concentration overly and found himself neurotic, he had such a bond with his dad but for the fact that his dad never consider that, it hurts even more. His lack of concentration won him a broken limb, during ice hockey and that led to his dropping of his favourite game.
He felt totally different and Nancy had tried bringing him back. She match maked him with girls, blind dates and lots more. But he never thought of loving again. He got stuck to his few male pals and lived off fine with them till Amber Barrie came in. Nancy wanted her desperately not just as a girlfriend but a daughter-in-law. She wanted Steve to get married to Amber and would go miles to see that happen.
But Steve would rather not let things flow. It've been 5 years since Summer Gray exceted in his life, but it still rankeed with him being in anything termed relationship ever again.
Steve knew Amber Barrie was never going to make any difference either, even as he breezed into her grocery and watch her kindly speak to an aged customer. He felt nothing serious was ever going to happen between them, especially as she'd saved his mom, as Nancy had narrated maybe it was simply her way of life being nice to everyone to everyone. Even then She was tickling a baby, her next customer's kid, on the checkpoint queue. He suspected there was more to learn of her than those good looks she wore always, something about her must be sour as far as he is concerned. Girls who overly reacted generously and prim had the worst attitude under their roof. Amber was not an exception to such thought and that made him hate every kind gestures.
He wheeled his trolley towards the checkout queue, she seemed so happy to see him as she flashed him a smile, which he returned with an icy glare. She didn't care or rather pretend not to.
"Here, your receipt is ready" she exclaimed. His one Evidence to prove he'd shopped from Amber, which Nancy never got tired of asking for.
"Tell madam Nancy I'd bring her favorite cupcakes while I come on Sunday" she added as he strode off through the front door.
Her routine-always having a Sunday lunch with the Spence family as Nancy had offered. She could have rejected it or withdrawn since then but instead she'd continued. Whatever was that she wanted, if it had anything to do with him, he hope she withdrew earlier, else she could get a heart break. He assured himself as he houted down the groceries on the passenger seat, fastened his seat belt and started the car
He'd stop by the hospital to foot the bill with his credit card. No one would ever hear of the accident, he promised himself.........…
A stouty bespectacled doctor was taking the girl's pulse when he breezed in. Steve greeted as the doctor flashed him a warm smile for a reply.
"Boyfriend?"
"Never and not a brother" he snapped out.
"That sounds curt" the doctor said, grinning.
"Forgive my manners" Steve replied with a grin too.
He surveyed the girl lying on her back, her right hand infused to an IV
"She's a lucky girl, nothing severe just minor injury, she could get discharged straight away" the doctor said with a wane smile.
"Good for her_ I've made the necessary expenses and wouldn't wait to have her up first before I leave. I need to get home straight away" Steve spluttered.
"Mmm so soon?"the doctor inquired.
"Absolutely" Steve said.
"Okay but how did you get her here, where did you meet her, was she..."
"Urgh" A raspy voice groaned Interrupting the doctor whose eyes darted to her unisonely as Steve did.
"Why do My Head Hurt?" He asked no one in particular.
"You do? don't worry you'd be fine soon" the doctor said. "What are you" she queried, with a pair of lidded eyes trying to focus. "Dr. Eastman, I'm your doctor. And I'm happy to inform you that you're okay, you could be discharge straight away and I'd fix an appointment with you on Wednesday or Friday. To check on you" Dr Eastman came close to feel her temple.
"You're really lucky dear, not even a single bone was splitted, you must have strong bones like your parents" he added.
"Not like the accident was too critical" Steve chipped in. She didn't mind what he'd said. But did mind that which the doctor had said. Parents, he actually mentioned her parents. And why should he, it all seem lucid now. The accident and how it had happen.
"Who brought me here?" She asked, her raspy voice sobery and rougher.
"I did, now what? 're you planning on paying back....
" Shut up! Why should you?" She shrieked freaking Steve out. Dr stared at her weirdly and startled.
They both watched hard forcefully took off the needle, connecting to the IV. She slipped her feet into the hospital slippers and started to the door.
"Excuse me young lady....
