Chapter Five

"Today is my birthday!" exclaims an excited Shelly as she leaps on her mother that first morning in Paris. Sawyer was completely worn out. She had waited up all night almost for Donovan to at least call her to inform her about what was going on with his little brother. And not to mention Evan was not adjusting to being in Paris. He slept on the plane most of the time. So he was quite wide awake. All night. "A few more moments, please Shelly. Mommy is tired out" yawns Sawyer as she rolls over getting Shelly off of her. "I tried to play My Little Pony. But Pinky Pie is speaking in French. I don't know French momma" giggles Shelly with excitement. Sawyer yawned. She would have to adjust the tv to American English for Shelly's entertainment. If she could figure it out. Maybe Donovan could get it for her. She was not good with things such as that. As if he read her mind Evan begins to cry again. Maybe he wanted his daddy. "What is the issue here little man? Am I not good enough for you any more?" Sawyer teases Evan as she takes him in her arms. He slept in a little bassinet beside the bed. Evan fussed on her. He had a bottle about a half hour ago. So he was all set. He was not wet. He must miss Donovan. "Let's go see if daddy is up. Shall we? Come on little man" Sawyer says to Evan. "Can I come to? Please?" begs Shelly. "You know what? Sure. Let me get dressed. Watch Evan real quick okay?" Sawyer asks Shelly. "Sure mommy" Shelly replies as Sawyer grabs a top and a pair of jeans from her luggage. She rushes in the bathroom. Changes. Brushes her hair. Her teeth. That was all of what she had time for. For now. She heads out of the bathroom. "He won't be quite mommy" warns Shelly when she comes back. Shelly was peering over the bassinet as she looked in on Evan. Evan was a fussy bucket. Sawyer picks up Evan. "Shh little man. Let's go see dad" Sawyer says. She leads Shelly to head next door over to Donovan's room. She knocks on the door. No one answers. Sawyer sighs as she bounces Evan in her arms trying to keep him quite in the halls. "Mommy where is he?" wonders Shelly. "Maybe he is not up yet" yawns Sawyer. She knocks on the door a little louder. Suddenly the door swings open. Much to her surprise there stood QUINN. Wearing nothing but Donovan's shirt. Her legs were showing. "May I help you?" Quinn asks her snidely. "Where is Mr. Spencer? Quinn?" Replies in surprise Sawyer. "Who are you?" Quinn questions back. "I am Shelly Carter" Shelly answers. Quinn raises her eyebrows. "I am sorry. I did not mean to bother you. It is just Evan is so fussy. I think he wants his father" explains Sawyer as a blush creeps over her cheeks. She assumed that it was over with Quinn and Donovan. So what was Quinn doing in his room? Spending the night? Wearing his clothing? Jealousy hits her hard. She tries not to let it get to her. She knew they were nothing. Nothing to Donovan. She knew better then to hope for something more than a one night stand. "You are the nanny correct?" Quinn asks her. Sawyer nods. "I am" she replies. "Then handle it. Donovan has had a VERY stressful night. You have no idea what he had been through. He needs more sleep. He pays you. Surly you can handle a crying infant" remarks snotty Quinn. She made poor Sawyer feel like a lousy nanny. She never felt so small. "I can. It is just...it is just Shelly's birthday...." she stammers. "So you had the day off?" questions Quinn. "No, not really" sighs Sawyer feeling flustered. And all together embarrassed. "Then take care of the baby" Quinn demands. She shuts the door on Sawyer. Sawyer fumes. How dare Quinn! This was Donovan's child. The child clearly wanted his father. Evan wailed in her embrace. Her heart melted for the baby. Sawyer takes him back to the bedroom. Sawyer holds Evan close. "There there baby. I feel the same way" sighs Sawyer. "What are we going to do now momma?" asks Shelly. "Celebrate your birthday! Nothing is going to slow us down. Let's go celebrate. Take Evan with us. How about that?" offers Sawyer. "Yea!" says Shelly. "You get dressed. Put on that birthday dress that Nana bought you for your birthday" demands Sawyer. "Alright" says Shelly. She does as she is told. Gets dressed. Sawyer helps her fix her hair. Evan was a little fussy. But he was getting better. Sawyer gets out his stroller for a walk. Maybe sightseeing would help lift their spirits that day. She took the kids out of the hotel. Though she did not know her way around the area at all. She only hoped that she would not get lost being out there. She did not have much cash on her. But she had enough to take Shelly out for a birthday lunch some place. "Mommy it sure is pretty here" Shelly remarks as she held onto the stroller while they walked around.    ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥  Evan was enjoying the stroll outside. He was sleeping peacefully now. The little stinker. The day sure was pretty out. Sawyer and Shelly enjoyed a lunch outside at a little bench. Then they went to see the famous Paris tower. Shelly wanted to go on and climb it. But they could not do it with Evan with them. Sawyer took photos of Shelly with her phone by the famous tower. They had a funny mime come by doing an act being stuck in a box. "Mommy what is that weird person doing?" Shelly whispers as they watch the act. "Look they are stuck" giggles Sawyer. "They are not really stuck" Shelly whispers. "Play along silly" Sawyer whispers back. Soon the little show was over. Someone was a one man band. Playing music for everyone. Shelly wanted to stop and watch. They all clapped their hands while the older man played and danced. "This is fun here!" Shelly says as she claps her hands. Sawyer's phone rings. It was Donovan finally calling her back. She lets it go to voicemail. She really was in no mood for him or his new lady love Quinn at the moment. She just wanted to finish enjoying the day with her daughter. Soon the fun was over. They had to go back to the hotel. "Mommy can I still have a tea party one day?" wonders Shelly. Sawyer felt guilty because Donovan had brought up the subject of a tea party there at the hotel for Shelly. He broke his promise. "Maybe!" says Sawyer. They head back into the hotel room. Donovan was waiting there. He looked furious. "Well there you are! Care to explain why you were gone all day with MY son! Not bothering to answer my calls?" he snaps as he picks up a sleepy Evan from the stroller. Anger began to it Sawyer hard. "Listen in case you forgot what day it was because you were to busy playing with your little girlfriend Quinn today was SHELLY'S birthday! We were out celebrating it" snaps Sawyer. A shocked look comes over Donovan. "s**t, I am so sorry! With everything going on. I forgot it was going to be her birthday" he sighs. "Just like most men forget. I did not. So I don't care if I was out all day. I am going to celebrate my baby's birthday" snaps Sawyer. "How did you know I was with Quinn?" Donovan wonders. "I went to bring you Evan this morning. You were sleeping. Quinn said I needed to handle my job that I was the nanny after all. So we took Evan with us on the birthday celebration. I did not get any sleep. But I managed just fine" snaps Sawyer angrily. She had enough. "Sawyer, listen about last night it is not what you think" Donovan begins to say. "Save it. I don't want to know what is going on or is not going with you and Quinn. It is not my concern. You are my BOSS. Nothing more. So we need to make some ground rules with that" she begins. He sets Evan in the bassinet. He leads Sawyer into the deck outside. She fights back tears that threatened to surface in her eyes. She would not let him see her crying over him! "You know we are more than friends. More than employee, employer. There is nothing going on with Quinn. But you know there is something going on with us" he says as softly as he pulls her into his embrace. She weakens when it came to him. She should not allow herself to. She looks away. He touches her chin to lift her face to look right into his beautiful eyes. "We are more than friends. Past that!" he whispers as he sends chills down her arms. He smiles at her warming her heart for him all over again. So many questions ran in her mind. She could not find the right words to say them at that time. He knew what she needed. He leans in. Kissing her on her lips. His kisses were just as wonderful as the last time. She melts into his embrace weakly as he holds her closer to him. He knew she was his. That was the problem. •♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•
