Several more hours, several more attempts by the healers and nothing had really changed. This had been one of the longest days of his life, he felt like he had aged ten years with his worry. Surprisingly, Lucas had stopped by to see how she was doing. They may not have been close, but he knew how much she meant to Lyla and me. He sat in silence, the only noise was the beeping from the machines. He had just about dozed off when he noticed the silence. That meant one of two things…
He slowly lifted his eyes and stared at the machines. He looked at Lilith and noticed she was sitting up staring at him, her head c****d to the side and her beautiful grey eyes piercing his soul. He had never jumped so quick to wrap his arms around her. Her hands came across his back and they were not hot, meaning she wasn’t angry or upset. He pulled from her, looking down at her confused face.
“Eli, where am I?”
“You do not remember?”
“I remember his red eyes, and he said something. I don’t know what he said. I just know whatever he did, it hurt.”
Now it was Eli’s turn to be puzzled, “who are you talking about? We were all inside watching the news and you had a vision. You started convulsing and your eyes, they looked the color of a flickering light bulb before it goes out. A dull yellow, and then you passed out. We brought you to the med bay and we tried everything. Nothing was working, and now you’re here and there has not been a man with red eyes.”
“He was in the vision, it was not a vision though. It was like I traveled there. The medics saw the baby was okay, just shocked. The poor man lost his wife. There was chaos and blood everywhere, except him. It was him who set the bombs, but he did not look human. He had these red eyes, like the color of fresh blood. His skin was yellowish and he was missing a front tooth. He knew I was there. He caught me staring before he mumbled something. I’m not sure what he said, but whatever it was it hurt so bad.” Lilith tilted her head to the side.
Eli was frozen, demons did not cause problems with witches. If it was a demon, it made sense. He would have hexed her, to cover his tracks. Now the question running through his mind was to tell her or not. She should be dead, it made sense why her eyes were dimming. Why the machines were not working, he had tried to cover himself.
“Oh dear,” was all he could mutter before jolting up.
“What is it brother?” Lilith reached for him, his arm pulling from her.
“You should be dead, he hexed you. You should not be alive.” He started pacing, pulling from her. His fear radiating and his mistaken had cost him.
She knew what he was thinking, she knew he did not mean to leave his block down. She did not dig, she could barely manage to believe what she was hearing. He was scared, the fear radiating from him was so intense she started to tear up.
“Brother, demons?” And she saw him freeze knowing his block had fallen.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and stopped pacing, “they never mess with our kind. We had agreements set years ago. Whatever you saw he was trying to hide. I have to tell father.”
Tears started streaming down her face, “but I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t mean for him to see me. How did he see me?”
He paused and came to wrap his arms around her again, this time her hands had become hot and her eyes had flash from grey to amber and then back to grey.
“I do not know Lil, but I must get father. You are not in trouble. We just need to figure out what is happening.” He lifted himself and kissed her forehead, “I will return in a few minutes and you have to tell father everything.”
And then she was left alone with not only her thoughts, but her brothers burned into her mind. She silently let her tears fall. What was wrong with her? She laid her head back, and looked at the ceiling. How she wanted to go to her gardens and just sit.
