Anton Reves comes to the compound himself, three weeks later, the first time he has ever crossed the gate rather than meeting us at neutral ground. He looks older than the man who sat across from us at the Alderman two years ago. The bruises have faded but something in his bearing has not fully recovered, and I recognize it because I have seen the same thing in Petra and in Martin and in everyone who has come through this gate carrying something they were not certain they could put down. Sera meets him in the courtyard before any of us reach him. She does not say anything dramatic. She simply puts her arms around her father, and he holds her, and for a long moment neither of them moves. When he finally comes inside, he looks at the operations room, at the table, at the people around it.
