Marcella's POV
“This doesn't make sense,” I down-toned my voice, trying my best not to sound rude.
He is still my boss, and I don't want to lose my job.
“Grandma is sick… she isn't getting better anytime soon, I just want to make her happy, and I need you to play along,” he explained.
Possibly, this is the best explanation he could give. He should have informed me earlier, not just bring me here and dump the news on me.
“For how long?” I asked.
“We will be here for a week, but you have to play along a lot longer.”
Longer? Is this man aware that my wedding just crashed? I need time to heal, not to get involved with him in a dirty game.
“But sir?”
“I will pay you. You just have to play my girlfriend,” he muttered, the authority in his tone doesn't cease to amaze me.
“You don't have to pay me sir, we are doing this for your grandma right?”
“Yeah… right.”
“And I would like for you to stop referring to me as sir. Call me by my name.”
“Okay.”
I heaved a sigh… sitting on the sofa beside me. This is it Marcella, you are now your boss's girlfriend.
Just yesterday, my world was crashing right before my eyes, but now, I am in a mansion in Pennsylvania, being Antonio Martinez’s fake girlfriend.
Something scared me though, being in the same room with him for a week. What if I repeat the same mistake as last night?
No! That isn't gonna happen, you’ve got to put restraint on yourself Marcella.
I charged my phone for a few minutes, and then I texted Sofia: ‘Hi babe, don't worry too much about me. I accidentally stumbled into Mr Martinez yesterday, I am currently with him in Pennsylvania’.
I turned off my phone after sending the text, Sofia is sure to deliver the message to my parents. I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone for now.
“Let's have lunch downstairs,” Antonio offered.
“No thanks, I am good.” I rejected. I wasn't ready for another scene of pretending to be his girlfriend.
He looked at me with questioning eyes. “You didn't have anything besides the hangover soup.”
“Yeah… but I am too tired to go back down, jet lagged.” I hoped I was convincing enough.
“Our food will be brought here then,” he smirked.
The fact that he used ‘our’ terrified me. This is supposed to be a game right? Why do I feel like there is something more to it?

At nighttime, I curled into the sofa, while Antonio worked on his laptop.
His gaze landed on me, “You aren't gonna sleep there, are you?”
“I am fine here sir… Antonio.” His glare made me correct myself.
“You don't want to sleep on the same bed as me?” he raised his eyebrows.
“No… I…”
“I am not a monster, I am not gonna eat you up. We are both adults, you sleep on one side, I sleep on the other.”
‘Eat you up’? Those words sound familiar. The memories of last night replayed in my head.
“Promise not to touch me,” I muttered.
“That's if you don't touch me first, mi amor,” he grinned.
He is being corny.
‘I won't touch you dirty boss,’ I murmured to myself.
I laid on the bed… at the very edge of it, making sure there was plenty of space between us.
Mistakes only happen once, twice is a choice.

I only realized I had fallen asleep when the morning sunrays reflected on my face. My eyelids forced open, and I stretched my body lazily.
Damn! I really had a good sleep. My brain took a few seconds to process my environment – Antonio’s room.
I turned to the other side, but Antonio wasn't there. He must have woken up before me. I smiled as I rolled around the bed.
A slight knock on the door made me jolt. Antonio shouldn't be knocking, it's his room.
I got up to open the door, it wasn't Antonio knocking. It was a lady dressed in a maid's uniform.
“Good morning ma'am. Sir said you should wear this to the gathering,” she smiled politely, and I took the bag from her.
“Thanks.” I wanted to close the door but she stopped me.
“Sir said I should help you get dressed too.”
I accept the clothes, but dressing me up isn't necessary, I can get dressed myself.
These wealthy people!
I let her inside the room.
In a few minutes, I was standing by the mirror, all dressed up, thanks to the lady Antonio sent. I asked for her name earlier, she goes by the name Maya.
I think I like Maya, she is nice.
“You are beautiful Miss,” she complimented.
“Thanks.”
I studied my reflection carefully, Maya is right… I looked absolutely stunning. A soft smile appeared on my face, but it faded almost immediately. Realization washed through me… there are going to be many other beautiful ladies at the gathering.
I am just a peasant who doesn't belong to this world. I am faking being Antonio’s girlfriend for now. In the real world, I will have to work off my ass to get my bills cleared.
“What's wrong ma'am?” Maya asked.
“It's nothing.”
“Okay then, can we proceed?”
“Sure,” I answered and we proceeded to the gathering.
The hall shimmered with golden decorations, wealthy men and women stood in groups, the slow background music overshadowed their murmurs.
It wasn't a little gathering like Mrs Martinez said, it was a full blast. Sorry, I don't know how rich folks do their stuff.
I caught the sight of Antonio talking to a lady who looked like the mini version of his grandma from a distance.
He winked at me, probably signaling for me to come over. I walked graciously towards them. Not too fast, not too slow, just me minding my steps.
“Hey babe,” Antonio said, moving his face closer to mine. For a second there, I thought he wanted to kiss me, but he only pecked my cheek.
The soft touch of his lips on my cheek still managed to send electricity through me.
“I have been looking for you,” I said.
“Here I am,” he held my hand and pulled me a little closer.
“Aunt, this is my girlfriend, Marcella.”
His aunt's eyes scanned through me, it almost felt like she was stabbing me with her gaze.
“Ohh,” she snorted.
No one needed to tell me, it's clear that Antonio’s aunt doesn't like me. This is going to be a heck of a journey.
