5 The professor was in her office. The room was another work of art. If the Dance building was a luxury ocean liner, Lila’s office was the captain’s cabin. A thick woven rug covered most of the polished wooden floor. Lila’s cherry wood desk took up most of the room. There were photographs filling the wall behind Lila’s chair. Winnie assumed the elegant ballerina in all of the photos was Lila. Now the bent old woman that ballerina had become sat in a burgundy leather chair that seemed too big for her. Winnie could see a pillow propped behind Lila’s spine. She hoped it was giving the poor woman some relief. Lila motioned for Winnie to sit in one of the soft leather chairs across the desk.
