2 By late afternoon, introductions had been made, and Winnie and Benjamin set up a video call. Despite his stress and his obvious lack of sleep, Dr. Benjamin Rook appeared to be a handsome man, in a rugged, outdoorsy way. Winnie knew from her research that he was fifty-four, and that he lived and worked at 11,200 feet in the mountains of Colorado, outside a small town called Worster Bend. He wore a wool cap over his shaggy brown and gray hair. His beard, a mix of those same colors, looked nicely groomed, maybe for the conference in Frankfurt. Winnie’s skill at seeing auras never translated very well through a computer screen. But she knew kindness and decency when she saw it, and Benjamin Rook’s face looked kind and decent.
