Chapter 3: The International Expert

"Hmph, as if he's capable of that!" Darius looked up to see two young people walking side by side into the ward. The girl leading them was beautiful and dressed flamboyantly, her demeanor radiating arrogance. She was Aurora Hartwell's younger sister, Evelyn Hartwell. "Dad, this Darius is nothing but a fraud!" Evelyn approached Gregory Hartwell, her disdain for Darius unmistakable. "The improvement in Grandpa's health is all thanks to Christopher. He specially invited Mr. Chris, a renowned medicine expert, from abroad!" Chris was an internationally acclaimed cancer specialist, known for his miraculous medical skills that had even treated the head of state in America. "What?!" Gregory Hartwell was taken aback, then looked excitedly at the handsome man next to his daughter. "Christopher, is what Evelyn saying true?" "Mr. Hartwell, Mr. Chris is here; how could it be false?" Christopher White, with an air of arrogance, looked down on Darius. As a scion of one of Silverpine City's three major families, he naturally had little regard for Darius. "It's only because of my request that Mr. Chris agreed to use his newly developed miracle drug on Mr. Hartwell." "Who would have thought that someone could be so shameless, claiming the effects of Mr. Chris's miracle drug as their own work? It's truly laughable!" With Christopher's sarcastic remarks, everyone in the room turned their gaze towards Darius, faces full of mockery. Initially, they thought Darius might truly have some skills. Now, it appeared he was nothing more than a clown. Darius furrowed his brow, ignoring Christopher's accusations. The name Chris sounded familiar, but before he could recall where he had heard it, the ward door was pushed open again. A tall, thin foreigner, surrounded by a group of experts, walked in. "Mr. Chris, your medical skills are truly divine!" "Indeed, the miracle drug is phenomenal. It took less than two minutes for the patient to show a response!" "To be such a renowned cancer specialist internationally, we are truly inferior!" Chris approached the bed with an air of arrogance. Just as he was about to speak, he noticed the silver needles in Frederick Hartwell's chest and his eyebrows furrowed instantly. "Who did this with these worthless needles?" Unintimidated, Darius stepped forward to face Chris directly. "I placed those needles in Mr. Hartwell. It's currently the only method that can save him." Chris looked Darius up and down, his face showing disdain. "Do you really think your treatment method is better than my miracle drug?" "Traditional medicine and acupuncture, is nothing but unscientific remnants! How could it possibly compare to our medical system!" Chris then turned to Gregory Hartwell and the others, his tone mocking. "You're letting this guy mess around, risking the old man's life! Kick this guy out immediately, don't dirty my sight!" Hearing Chris's assertion that Darius nearly killed Mr. Hartwell, the Hartwell relatives couldn't sit still. The entire ward erupted in chaos! "Acting knowledgeable when you're ignorant, do you realize you're playing with human lives!" Alexander Hartwell pointed at Darius and furiously scolded him, his body trembling with anger. After all, if Mr. Hartwell were to pass away, the Hartwell family's status in Silverpine City would plummet! And he would stand to gain nothing from it! "Well, look at you, Darius, what are you really up to!" Oliver Hartwell immediately voiced his anger. "Call the police right now and get this convict locked up in the police station!" Seeing that those around were seriously considering calling the police, Aurora Hartwell panicked and quickly defended Darius. "It's not like that; Darius was just trying to help! Hurting Grandpa would bring him no benefit whatsoever!" "Trying to help?" Evelyn Hartwell's lips curled in scorn as she complained to Gregory Hartwell. "Dad, look at the wonderful son-in-law sister has brought into our family. He hasn't even officially joined us, and he's already 'helping' to the point of almost killing Grandpa!" "Christopher has been nothing but helpful, upgrading Grandpa to a VIP room and especially inviting Mr. Chris over. All his efforts were almost wasted because of this disaster!" "I think, as long as sister and this worthless son-in-law stay out of it, with Christopher's help, Grandpa will only get better faster!" Just then, Darius, who had been watching all this unfold, suddenly snatched the miracle drug from the doctor's hand. After a brief glance, he spoke with a grim face. "I think the person who almost killed Mr. Hartwell is actually you." "This drug is of unknown origin and is still in clinical trial. Not only does it not cure Mr. Hartwell, but it could also worsen his condition." "What did you say?" Chris managed to hide the flash of panic on his face, adopting a disdainful demeanor. "You don't even understand what a miracle drug is and dare to question my medical practice? Do you know who I am?" The doctors surrounding Chris, eager to curry favor, also began to scold. "Who is this quack, daring to spout nonsense at Mr. Chris? You must have a death wish!" "Do you realize you almost killed someone just now? Mr. Chris was helping you, and instead of thanking him, you dare to question his miracle drug?" Christopher White scoffed, looking at Darius as if he were a fool. "If Mr. Chris's drug can't cure Mr. Hartwell, do you really think you, a convict, can?" "Yes, only I can!" Against Christopher's mockery, Darius simply nodded seriously. "Just let me continue with acupuncture, and within a month, I can cure grandpa." At this point, everyone in the room thought Darius had lost his mind. What a joke! "Mr. White, I came here as a favor to you, and I didn't expect the Hartwell family to be so ungrateful." With that, Chris turned to leave. Seeing this, the Hartwell family immediately panicked. "Mr. Chris, it's not like that! How could we disrespect you!" Gregory Hartwell hurriedly tried to stop him while turning to scold Darius. "Shut up! What are you, daring to make waves in front of Mr. Chris!" "Do you want to kill Aurora's grandfather? Get out!" Oliver Hartwell certainly didn't miss this opportunity to scold, "Did you hear that, Aurora? Get this loser out of here now!" As Darius tried to speak again, Aurora Hartwell could only interrupt him helplessly. Faced with such a tumultuous crowd of relatives, she knew further explanation was futile. After all, deep down, Aurora didn't have much faith in Darius. "Darius, let's go!" ... In the lobby on the first floor, finally catching up with Aurora Hartwell, Darius hurried to explain. "This Chris, he's just a profit-seeker, relying on some illegal drugs to make a fortune, not a real doctor at all!" Saying this, Darius showed Aurora the information he had found on his phone about Chris, hoping to reveal his true nature. "Mr. Hartwell absolutely cannot continue treatment under this man!"
