Chapter 4: Apologize to Her

992 Words
"What was she thinking, bringing back such a disaster? She really knows how to worry people!" Emma Hartwell, Aurora's mother, followed her out of the ward, intending to offer some words of comfort. But as soon as she exited the elevator, she overheard Darius's harsh words about Chris. Seeing her mother, Aurora was somewhat surprised. "Mom, what are you doing here?" Ignoring her daughter, Emma pointed at Darius, her face dark with anger. "Mr. Chris's treatment was showing results, and we all saw it with our own eyes. Yet you dare spread rumors?" "Darius, it's one thing to be useless, but losing all shame is another!" Being pointed at and accused, even Darius couldn't help but frown. But considering the accuser was Aurora's mother, he still tried to explain patiently. "If Chris continues unchecked, Mr. Hartwell will undoubtedly die within three days!" "You—you shut up!" Hearing Darius stubbornly insisting, Emma turned pale with anger, trembling all over. "Not even looking at yourself in the mirror to see what you're worth, yet you dare make such outrageous claims! You're beyond help!" "Mom, are you okay?" Seeing her mother genuinely upset, Aurora too looked displeased. "Darius! You're not a doctor, can you stop boasting?" "I brought you here, not to upset my parents!" Darius solemnly said, "Aurora, can't you trust me just once?" If he wasn't absolutely sure, why would he risk Mr. Hartwell's life? But before Aurora could respond, the elevator doors opened again, and Christopher White, who had encountered them in the ward, came out. "Mom, Aurora, let's all calm down!" "This situation has escalated because of me!" Christopher wore a hypocritical smile. "It's my fault for overshadowing Darius." "Well, how about this? Mr. Hartwell's improvement has nothing to do with me, it's all Darius's achievement. Mr. Chris was just part of the show I put on!" Detecting Christopher's sarcasm, Darius didn't hesitate to retort. "Is your input necessary? The truth is exactly as I said." Darius's reply instantly piqued Emma's dissatisfaction with him. "Have you no end?" "Christopher is noble and gave you a way out, but look at you, thinking too highly of yourself!" Aurora sighed deeply, thoroughly disappointed by Darius's behavior. "Darius, come with me. Let's not embarrass ourselves here anymore." Seeing the situation turn in his favor, Christopher couldn't hide his smug grin, shrugging his shoulders. "Hey, Aurora, don't be in such a hurry to leave! Why don't I ask Mr. Chris if he does plastic surgery?" "With that face of yours staying like this, it's not good either!" Darius, who had been about to leave, turned sharply, his expression darkening upon hearing Christopher mock Aurora's appearance. He could tolerate insults directed at himself, but Aurora was his red line. "What did you say about her face?" Darius stopped, his tone becoming menacing, like a lion ready to roar. The next second, he spun around, his hand gripping Christopher's wrist tightly. "Apologize to Aurora!" Christopher's eyes narrowed, realizing too late to dodge. Under Darius's grip, he found himself completely immobilized. "What are you doing!" Seeing Darius suddenly take action against Christopher, Emma started screaming in shock. "You've got some nerve! If you hurt Christopher, the White family will never let you off!" "I don't care about the White family. If you insult Aurora, you must apologize!" Darius stood firm. Initially, Aurora wanted to scold Darius for his unreasonable behavior, but hearing his defense of her, she found herself speechless. At that moment, Christopher White suddenly spoke up, his tone filled with guilt. "Darius is right, I was in the wrong." He turned to Aurora, his apology sincere and earnest. "Aurora, I'm sorry, I really spoke out of turn just now." "Christopher, how can this be your fault!" Emma quickly intervened. "That was just you being straightforward! Aurora surely won't mind." Then Emma turned to Darius with a look of dissatisfaction. "You, let go of him now!" "Christopher has already apologized, what more do you want!" Aurora, not wanting to embarrass her mother, added, "It was just a comment, I'm not upset about it." Seeing Aurora didn't wish to pursue the matter, Darius let go and allowed her to pull him away from the hospital. Emma seized the opportunity to make a dig. "See, that's the difference in upbringing! A responsible man like Christopher is what you call a real man!" "Some people just resort to violence over a disagreement and don't even know how to apologize afterward!" "Mom, please don't say that. I did disrespect Aurora with my words just now, and Darius was just being protective." Christopher even pretended to defend Darius. Hearing this, Emma was even more dismissive, "Why go to such lengths?" "If he really had Aurora's best interest at heart, he would have left sooner! His behavior in the ward was just embarrassing Aurora!" "Ah, mom, let's not talk about this unpleasant matter." A hint of malice flickered in Christopher's eyes, but he still maintained the demeanor of a gentleman on the surface. "Mr. Chris just finished examining and said grandpa would wake up soon!" "Really?" Emma's mood lifted, no longer concerned with ridiculing Darius, and she hurriedly ran upstairs to the ward. ... In the ward, Chris stood before Gregory, serious. "Mr. Hartwell's condition is gradually improving. As long as the medication continues, there's a high chance he'll wake up!" "However, this is a miracle drug, and it's quite expensive, you see..." Chris didn't finish his sentence, but Gregory understood the implication. Seeing the effectiveness, it was naturally time to talk about payment. "Treat him, no matter the cost. The Hartwell family can afford it!" Just then, Emma and Christopher rushed in, anxious. Chris glanced at Christopher nonchalantly and sighed. "Ah, for the sake of young Mr. White, I'll take a hit and give you the cost price." "$100,000 dollars per dose!" ... Meanwhile, after leaving the hospital, Darius took Aurora to a hotel. "Hello, we'd like to book a room."
