Loser Husband

Chapter Five "Blair!" Nolan yelled in outrage as his aunt gasped with horror when the creamy cake splashed into her face. He ran to hold her steady as she wiped the creamy goo of her face. "Blair, what's the meaning of this?!" Nolan asked, heatedly in a pain filled voice, "How can you do this to my aunt?!" "You bastard, did you just yell at me?!" Blair looked enraged as she faced her parents, "Mom, Dad did you see that? This lowlife yelled at me!" "Lowlife?" Aint Claire asked quietly as tears filled her eyes, "Blair, how can you say that about Nolan? He's your husband and your son in law!" "Will you shut up?!" Joshua thundered, wagging his finger in front of them. He pointed at Nolan, "This thing here had never been accepted in my family as a son in law, and my daughter does not accept him as her husband!" "How dare you come here and yell at us in our own house?!" Patricia rerorted then turned swiftly to the guards hanging around, "Guards! Throw these lowlives outside at once!" The guards sprang into action at once, and they grabbed hold of Nolan and his aunt quite roughly, and led them right outside of the Estates gates. "Let go of me!" Nolan swore at them, but they took no heed of his words and hurriedly dumped them ceremoniously outside the gates. The force of their push nearly sent them sprawling to the ground, but Nolan quickly helped steady Aunt Claire before she could hurt herself. She was in tears already, and Nolan sighed heavily. He took out his handkerchief and gently wiped the cream that was still left on her face. She gripped his arm gently, and he looked into blue eyes that were very much like his own. "Nolan, tell me." She utged through gritted teeth, "Is this how they have been treating you all along? Is this how Blair has been treating you?!" "No, Aunt Claire." Nolan said without hesitation, covering for Blair once more. He also did not want Aunt Claire to be unnecessarily worried. But what she'd had seen today confirmed her worst fears, that her nephew was not living his best life as the son in law of the great Fernandez family. At that moment, the gates opened once more, and a gleaming Maybach rolled out in all its glory. Blair and her parents were in the car, and they stared down their nose in disdain at Nolan and his Aunt as the car drove away into the city. Nolan eventually led his Aunt home safely, before he rushed to his usual job seeking for the day. He finally managed to get a job as a construction worker in a construction site, and he'd never felt happier. "Are you sure you'll be able to do this?" The supervisor asked gruffly, giving Nolan a whimsical look. He was a stocky man, probably in his mid forties and sported a huge bar handle beard on a weathered face. "Yes sir." Nolan replied eagerly, as he bowed deep in respect, "Just give me a chance and I'll prove myself to you." He had no experience in any kind of construction job, but he felt he was determined enough to do it. The supervisor was doubtful but he felt that Nolan was young, and they did need a lot of hands so he gave Nolan the job. "You just change real quick and join the other men on the site," He ordered and turned away to his station. Happily, Nolan did as he was told and worked the whole day, lifting building materials, gathering debris, working machines. It was a tiring job, but he felt very fulfilled while he was working. He was almost done with the job for the day when Chairman Fernandez called him. "Where are you?" The old man asked sternly, "Today's the queen's gala. Don't tell me you're not attending." Nolan bit his lower lips in regret as he prepared to decline the chairman's request, "Chairman...well I.." "Stop spluttering and get over here this instant!" The chairman barked gruffly, "Aren't you going to support your wife if she wins an award? Why are you also misbehaving now?!" Nolan hesitated once more, "But chairman, I have nothing to wear," he said in a small voice, "It's such a grand event and I don't want to embarrass my wife." "Oh stop the whining and get over here." The chairman said impatiently, "My assistant will get you some clothes, and my driver will pick you up in an hour's time. You are not to be a minute late, do you hear me?!" The call ended before Nolan could say anything more, and he sighed in distress. He really did not want to go. But what if his wife really wins an award? It would lift her spirits and would also make her happy enough to accept his birthday gift for her. His heart jumped with alacrity as this thought crossed his mind, and he quickly made his decision. One hour. He had one hour to get to the ball and maybe stir up Blair's heart for him once again. He hailed a taxi and when it stopped, he quickly went in, ignoring the cries of his supervisor who was calling him back, and telling him he was not done with the day's work. "The Fernandez Estate." He told the cabbie who drove through the city at neck break speed, as if he knew that Nola was in a big hurry. When he got to the house, he quickly ran up to his room and found the clothes which the assistant had gotten him. Nolan quickly freshened up and dressed up. To his dismay, however, he found that the clothes were not of his size, and did not fit him at all. He gritted his teeth in indecision, as he looked at his horrendous appearance but he waved it off. Blair would not mind surely, and would be happy that he'd come to celebrate with her. He grabbed her gift and placed it in the pocket of the oversize suit and walked out of the house. The bodyguards snickered in derisive laughter, as soon as they saw him and even the driver raised his eyebrows in surprise, but he did not say a word. Nolan got into the car and they drove straight to the Zenith Hotel where the Queen's gala was been held. It was one of the most fabulous hotels in the city, at seven stars and was built especially for luxury and wealth. Nolan received curious looks and laughter, as he walked into the huge hall where the awards event was being held. He could not find any member of the Fernandez family and from the looks of things, it seemed like he'd missed the awards ceremony. He continued searching for his wife however, as he went deeper and deeper into the crowd. "Isn't she married? Why then, is she all over Ethan Vaughn?!" "Have you ever heard of her husband? I heard he was a loser. If I were Blair Fernandez, I would throw myself at Ethan as well!" "Well, Ethan is clearly not pushing her away. He's into her as well." "Blair Fernandez is so awesome! She's a creative and also so beautiful!" "She's a tramp! Clinging unto another man who's not her husnand!" "They looked good together. I don't know who her loser husband is, but he does not deserve her. He's not even here to celebrate with her win." Nolan's heart was beating hard as he heard those comments from the guests who stood around in twos and threes. They had their eyes fixed on a couple in the back of the hall. Nolan fought his way to the back, and stopped dead at the sight in front of him. His wife, Blair, was in the arms of another man! And it was none other than, Ethan Vaughn. 1
