Chapter Two
Nolan grabbed her finger gently to stop her from jabbing it into his shoulder.
"That's enough, Blair. Stop." he muttered , with his eyes and voice lowered.
Blair quickly swung her hand away from his and slapped him hard, "How dare you touch me?!" She screamed at him.
Nolan gritted his teeth, but he still kept his head bowed as he muttered, "I'm sorry." He looked up at her with startling blue eyes shimmering with tears, "Can we not do this tonight? I need to sleep. I've had a long day."
Blair raked a hand through her hair at the audacity of his question.
He's had a long day?!
What a loser!
She shuddered as she thought of him touching her just now and almost barfed. She wondered how she'd managed to be with him when they were dating.
"I was such a fool to be lured by his good looks," she muttered in regret, "He's nothing, but a poor church rat with stupid dreams!"
Still, she took no small amount of satisfaction from seeing the tears in his eyes. She walked towards the closet which stood at the corner of the room, and brought out a sleeping bag at the bottom of it.
She threw it at him, and it landed on his body with a thump and fell to his feet. Nolan looked at the sleeping bag at his feet, and a shadow of gloom enveloped him as he suddenly realized what that meant.
"You will not share the bed with me tonight." She retorted, "You disgust me, Nolan. Please, put your poverty stinking self in the sleeping bag, and stay by the door."
Nolan shoulders slumped as he thought of sleeping on the hard cold ground once again. His entire body ached from sleeping on it the previous week.
Why was she doing this again?
He opened his mouth to protest but Blair had already turned towards the bed, dismissing him with a flip of her bed.
"Try not to disturb me at all tonight. Tomorrow's the queen's entrepreneurs gala. I need to look my best." She said as she placed an eye cover over her eyes, but before she could lower it fully, she gave him a frosty look and said in a cold voice, "If I hear any noise, I'll ask my daddy to throw you out. You'll be sleeping outside the gates." She gave him a cruel little smile, "I'm sure you know how that feels, right?"
Nolan could only stare at her in horror as she said those things. He knew what she'd meant by that last statement. Sometimes, Nolan had been confined to sleeping outside in the gardens, for an entire night, with nothing but the clothes he'd had on. It had been horrible because he'd thought he'd die from the cold then.
He definitely did not want something like that to happen again, so he promptly shut up and picked the sleeping back from the floor.
It was very light and the air-conditioner was turned on to the highest. Nolan did not fare well in the cold, but not Blair who claimed not to sleep well if the air conditioner was not at its highest. He dared not ask her if he could reduce it, as she was already snuggled under the soft, thick blankets.
He laid down in the sleeping bag by the door, not bothering to take his bath as the sound of the shower might disturb her, and she'd use that as an opportunity to throw him out.
He laid there on the floor as his thought started to wander. Suddenly, something occurred to him and he smiled in delight. Tomorrow was Blair's birthday and he'd prepared a wonderful gift for her.
It was a gold locket handcrafted by a talented jewelry maker in the city. He had designed it to be just like the one Blair had lost three years ago. The locket had been given to her by her grandmother, and Blair had cherished it. She had been saddened when she lost it.
Nolan knew it'd not have the same significance as the one her grandmother gave her, but he hoped she'd see his sincere heart in it and be as happy as she was before she'd lost her locket.
With this joyful thought, he snuggled back into the sleeping bag, gritting his teeth against the cold and went to sleep. He could not wait for the day to come, so he'd dazzle his wife.
Early the next morning, Blair woke up excitedly. It was her birthday and also the day she'd be getting an award at the queen's gala.
Or at least that's what she hoped.
The gala was held every year by the queen of Oakcrest city, and it was to honor innovative and creative entrepreneurs. Although, Blair worked for her family's company, she'd been nominated, because she was damn good at her job as an interior designer. She had a few amazing projects to her name, and had worked really hard this year.
She climbed out of bed, and her excitement was dampened immediately at the sight of Nolan, lying fast asleep at the door.
She scoffed, "Lucky for him to be sleeping so soundly, even while poverty is at his door," she muttered in rising anger, "If I win this award, I must definitely convince grandfather to let me divorce him. I can't be huddled with this silly youthful mistake all my life."
She stood up determinedly, and walked into the bathroom in order to prepare for the day. The gala was at mid day, but Blair needed to prepare so she can go shopping for what to wear, and also visit the spa and hair salon.
"I have to look especially exquisite," she muttered happily, as a delighted twinkle came into her eyes, "Especially since I'll be seeing him today."
She giggled as she took off her clothes and ran a bath in the tub. Her face was alight with pure bliss and a dreamy expression, as she thought of a special somebody.
Suddenly, she froze as there came a sound from behind her. She turned swiftly to find Nolan stumbling into the bathroom. His eyes were half closed and his pure white hair was mussed with sleep. He looked half asleep, and Blair's eyes widened in horror, as she saw him stand before the toilet and fumble for his zipper.
She slapped her arms over her body and screamed blue murder.
"Arrggghhh!!!"
Nolan was startled awake at the scream, "Wa..what?" He asked with groggy, sleepy eyes, trying to see what was going on. He turned to find Blair quickly putting on her robe. He averted his eyes quickly from her, as she started throwing things at him.
"Get out! Get out!! You p*****t, Arrghh!" She screamed again, horrified that Nolan had somehow seen her body, which was plain ridiculous because she was his wife.
"Blair! Stop, stop it! I did not know you were in there! " Nolan tried to reason with her as she threw things at him, beating and pushing him out of the bathroom, "Stop! I didn't mean to! It was an accident!"
Blair ignored his pleas as she screamed louder, her voice breaking with emotion, "r**e!" She yelled out loud, "Mom! Dad! Save me! Nolan wants to r**e me!"
