CHAPTER 9 The bunkhouse was empty except for Morgan and Warren. The other ranch hands were out doing their normal duties while Morgan and Warren waited to hear if Gerald Mason would recover. Morgan leaned against the porch railing, watching the cowhands around the barn and corral, but not really seeing them. It bewildered him how work at Bar M didn’t cease, even with the patriarch fighting for his life in the main house. Supplies were still hauled to and from wagons, horses were trained, cows roped, and animals fed. Morgan felt useless.
