CHAPTER 24
Charley kicked Omega’s sides. Faster. Omega needed to go faster. She veered into the woods, taking a path that would get her to the house quicker. She ducked her head low against Omega’s neck to avoid low-hanging branches. The wind tossed her hat free and whipped her hair around.
What happened to the barn? Had it been burned? Was it an accident? When did it happen? And most important, had anyone been hurt? Questions pummeled her mind.
That last question slammed Charley’s heart against her chest. It felt as if her heart was caught in barbed wire. Focus, Charley.
Omega and Charley charged around the bend and the house loomed before her. She pulled up on the reins, slowing her mount. She made her way to where the barn had once stood.
