The morning air nipped at Charley’s face. Cows bellowed and horses whinnied. They knew it was feeding time. Charley walked to the bunkhouse. She needed to see Morgan. Warren had told Morgan the truth that Gerald wasn’t his father, and no one knew who was. Warren had also said that Morgan hadn’t responded to the news. He’d just gotten out of bed, dressed, and left the main house. Charley knew that meant he was leaving, just as Warren had predicted. Well, he wasn’t leaving without her. She was going with him, whether he wanted her along or not. She stepped through the door and saw Morgan at the rear of the bunkhouse. He turned when she closed the door.
