The air in summer was originally hot and unbearable, but after a rain, the smell of garden soil and flowers could be smelled in the air. Tianxin stared out of the window at the acacia tree, feeling bored.
In class, there was an election for class president. Tianxin had been shy and introverted since she was young, so it was impossible for her to nominate herself in a class with so many people.
Except for the class president, who was personally appointed by the teacher, all the other positions were nominated and voted on. Zhu Ting sat in front of Tianxin and turned around to say, "Do you think Yang Zhifei is the teacher's relative? They both have the same last name, and the teacher even designated him as the class president. There must be something fishy going on." Zhu Ting transformed into Sherlock Holmes.
Tianxin shook her head, "I don't know, they just have the same last name. But I think the teacher values his ability. He organized things for the class during military training, and I think he would be a good class president." Yang Zhifei was tall, handsome, and wore glasses, giving off a scholarly and refined vibe. Tianxin had some impression of him.
Zhu Ting nodded lightly, "It's just a guess based on what some people were saying when we first started school. I don't know if it's true or not, but Yan Heng, the school bully in our year, might come to our class since he'll be in the second year." Zhu Ting was a little excited.
Tianxin didn't understand why a school bully would be so popular. "Do you really want him to come to our class?" She had vaguely heard about this person's deeds that day, and they were rumored to be quite extraordinary.
The boy next to Zhu Ting moved his chair, "The Yan Heng you mentioned was in the same school as me before. I heard of his name when I entered junior high school. All of our teachers regarded him as a model student. What's more important, he is handsome and has received countless love letters. He was quite rebellious and used to fight a lot, but he seems to have toned down since entering high school," As a boy, he sees Yan Heng as a role model and also hopes that Yan Heng will come to their class. It would be so cool to be in the same class as his idol.
Zhu Ting suddenly exclaimed, "Wow, he's such a cool and awesome guy. He must come to our class!" Tianxin was curious. He was a handsome young man, good at studying, proud and rebellious, and had nothing to do with the "Killer Matt" style. However, she had always hated fighting.
The boy was also quite gossipy, "But he has a bad temper. I heard that he once made a girl cry because of his scolding. Of course, I just heard about it and didn't witness it with my own eyes."
Tianxin's heart skipped a beat at the mention of a girl being scolded to tears. She felt that she and Yan Heng would not have any intersection in the future. Zhu Ting was a little discouraged, "I can't stand boys who bully girls. It ruins the beautiful image in my mind."
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward, and the boy seemed to realize that he had said the wrong thing, "It's not what you think. Yan Heng would never make a girl cry for no reason. People who have been in contact with him all say he's a man of sentiment and righteousness," Zhong You didn't know how to explain himself. He felt like he had just blackened his idol's image.
"There are so many classes in our freshman year, and he studies so well, he might even go to the experimental class," Tianxin thought to herself. The difference between the experimental class and regular class in their school was like night and day. If he went, the chances of them seeing each other would be almost zero since they were in different buildings.
Zhuting gave Tianxin a thumbs up. "Tianxin makes a good point. The big shots belong in the experimental class," she said. They couldn't be bothered with things like studying. Their goal was to be beautiful and admired. Tianxin's words made it seem like her chances with him were slim.
Their homeroom teacher had stepped out for a moment, leaving the classroom in a state of chaos. Most of the students huddled together, chatting and gossiping. Tianxin sat quietly in the corner, reading her Chinese textbook. Zhuting, on the other hand, was experiencing some discomfort in her neck and remained quietly in her seat. The seating arrangement was changed by their teacher today, separating Zhuting and Tianxin. Though Tianxin was a bit relieved to be alone since Zhuting was too enthusiastic, she feared that her introverted personality may bore her over time.
The class monitor entered with a class schedule in hand. "This is our class schedule. Those who need it can take a picture or copy it down. Don't destroy it," he said. "The sports committee is in charge of hygiene. Please arrange the cleaning schedule for tomorrow. Today, we officially begin classes. Be prepared for the next lesson."
Someone in the class let out a couple of yells. It was only the first day of school and they were already enjoying themselves in class. The class monitor's arrival brought a certain level of calmness to the classroom, with only the rustling of papers and books being heard. The next lesson was English, and the teacher simply introduced herself, briefly explaining her teaching style and rules. Tianxin diligently took notes on everything the teacher said.
Zhu Ting was about to say that the teacher was a bit perverted, but she saw Tianxin jotting down everything the teacher said and suddenly felt uneasy. Ah, her roommate was so cute, even more obedient than a primary school student. Zhu Ting turned her head in an instant.
On Wednesday morning, Tianxin was studying alone in the classroom. People gradually filled the room, and suddenly a piece of news spread, as if a plague had spread, and the atmosphere of the whole classroom became lively. Tianxin's train of thought was interrupted, and she irritably picked at the desk. She didn't like being interrupted when she was studying seriously, and all the words she had memorized were scattered like fish.
Tianxin put down her pen and obediently listened to what they were talking about. "It seems that Yan Heng is going to come to our class. I saw someone standing at the class teacher's office just now. I guess it's Yan Heng," someone said.
"I don't believe it. Maybe it's a transfer student. How could Yan Heng come to our class?" Although Yan Heng was at the bottom of the experimental class, he was still a member of it.
In addition to the officially admitted students, there were also sports students and transfer students in the school. Transfer students were not registered at the school.
"I bet ten packages of spicy sticks. Do you dare to?" another person said.
"Let's bet. It must not be Yan Heng," the first person replied.
Yan Heng was everywhere. Zhu Ting thought that if he really came to their class, it would cause a big stir. Boys and girls would go crazy. Just thinking about it made her feel anxious. She took out a piece of candy from her pocket. When she was in a bad mood, she always wanted to eat something. She would always put candy in her pocket every day, even if she didn't eat it sometimes. It was a habit she had developed over the years.
After finishing her self-study session, Tianxin breathed a sigh of relief. The classroom was filled with groups of students chatting, and Zhu Ting turned around to face Tianxin. "Is it really Yan Heng? I'm so excited! I've never seen him before. Is he really that handsome? I wonder if he's as handsome as my idol. He's the most handsome in the world. If he looks good, he'll just barely rank second in my heart."
Tianxin's head hurt. She felt like the whole classroom was filled with the name "Yan Heng." "Has this person been deified? It feels like they've all been brainwashed," she thought. People's gossip potential is truly endless, regardless of gender or age. Where there are people, there is gossip.
Zhu Ting looked at Tianxin. "It's human nature to love gossip. Life can be so oppressive, and if people don't find something to make them happy, what's the point of living? Tianxin, you can try to join in the conversation. It's not good to keep to yourself like this."
Tianxin nodded silently after a moment of silence. The bell for class rang, and everyone sat down. It reminded Tianxin of the scene when the teacher handed out the test papers. Everyone was a little nervous and excited. The homeroom teacher came in shortly afterward, followed by a boy with a tall and slender figure. He was wearing all black, which made him stand out in the blue and white school uniform. Tianxin's attention was drawn to the boy's feet. He was wearing the latest Adidas sneakers, which reminded her of the person on the bus who was also wearing Adidas. She couldn't believe her luck was that good, as she had never been able to get another bottle of drink or pack of instant noodles when she needed them.
"This is our new classmate. He took a half semester off for some personal reasons, and from now on, he's your classmate. Let's give a warm welcome to our new classmate," the homeroom teacher said with a smile.
Below, there was a warm round of applause. Someone had recognized Yan Heng. Zhong You nudged him and said, "It really is Yan Heng. I never thought he would end up in a regular class. Wasn't his academic performance outstanding?"
"Well then, let's have the new student introduce himself," the homeroom teacher said. In truth, she wasn't sure why Yan Heng had been assigned to the regular class. After all, he had been one of the top students who had been admitted to the prestigious No.1 High School and had entered the experimental class. Later, his grades had slipped due to some personal issues, but his potential was still evident. He could have easily gone back to the experimental class.
"My name is Yan Heng," he introduced himself in a short and cold tone. Tianxin's palms were sweaty. His voice was so familiar. It really was him. He probably didn't remember her. She thought about this brief moment of awkwardness and couldn't bring herself to look at Yan Heng's face. She lowered her head and looked at her English book.
The homeroom teacher didn't say anything about Yan Heng's short introduction. "You can sit in the seat next to the girl by the window," she pointed to Tianxin's seat. Tianxin shuddered and looked up, meeting Yan Heng's gaze. She was too nervous to even breathe. She wanted to refuse and tell the teacher that she didn't want to sit next to the new student. But she couldn't say a word.
Tianxin saw that Yan Heng had no expression on his face. Luckily, he didn't remember her. She smiled at the new student, but in the next moment, Yan Heng's lips curled slightly and there was a hint of laughter in his eyes. He walked down the aisle and hung his backpack on the hook, taking out his books and placing them on the table. The class was staring at him, but after a while, they looked away.
Yan Heng finished unpacking and started staring at Tianxin. She felt a chill run down her spine and her face turned red. "Do you want some candy?" She took out two pieces of Alpine candy from her pocket and nervously offered them to him.
"Do you think you can bribe me with candy? Do I look like that kind of person?" Yan Heng looked down at her from his high perch. He hadn't eaten candy since he was in kindergarten.
"What do you want then?" Tianxin's heart was pounding.
"I want you," Yan Heng said as he looked at the stunned Tianxin. He just wanted to tease her.
"What?!" Tianxin blinked her eyes.
Ha! She looked even more foolish now. Her new desk mate was a little delinquent and she was a coward. What a perfect match they were!
