"Lilac," he began, as we came to a stop in the middle of the living room, and I listened intently to what he had to tell me. “Since you don’t have enough money to buy good dresses from a decent store…I’ll give you the salary you need. But in turn, you need to work for me.”
God, not this again!
Hadn't we already gone through a whole ordeal about me working for him and in the end…it turned out to be a whole set up to humiliate me while he sang praises in Serena’s defense? And didn’t he just issue a last warning to Serena so that she got her act together and stopped harassing people?
So that chapter should be closed already, right? What else kind of work did he want me to do now?
