EPISODE 7 — Thronefire Awakening

1275 Words
The power didn’t stop. When I opened the bond fully, it was like tearing the sky apart from the inside. Gold light poured out of me in violent waves — not wild this time, but directed… ancient… sovereign. It wrapped around the Beast King like living armor. His wounds sealed instantly. His aura expanded beyond anything I had felt before — no longer just dominant… But absolute. The forest floor flattened under the pressure. Even the Moon Hunters staggered back a step. The Rift Warden roared — a deafening, hollow sound that shook the cracked earth as it dragged the rest of its colossal body from the fissure. It towered above the trees now. A skeletal titan draped in spectral decay, crowned with jagged moonbone antlers that scraped the Blood Moon sky. Its gaze locked onto me again. Target acquired. “Stay behind me,” the King said — but his voice had changed. Layered. Crowned. As if something older than him now spoke through his throat. “I’m not helpless,” I replied, though my heart was hammering violently. His golden eyes flicked toward me briefly — and I saw it there. Pride. Then he faced the Warden fully. “Then stand as my Queen.” The Rift Warden struck first. Its massive claw came down like a falling mountain. The King didn’t dodge. He caught it. One hand. The impact shattered the ground outward in a violent shockwave — trees snapping, earth splitting, Hunters thrown off balance. But he held it. Gold and black light exploded from the point of contact, burning into the Warden’s bone. It shrieked — a sound like metal tearing through souls. The King pushed upward — forcing the titanic limb back. Then leapt. He moved like a comet. Claws blazing thronefire as he slashed across the Warden’s chest — carving molten cracks through spectral bone. The beast reeled. But it did not fall. It swung its other arm — faster than something that size should move. The blow struck him mid-air — sending him crashing through three trees before he hit the ground hard enough to crater it. My heart stopped. “Arcturus!” Rage answered my fear instantly. The bond detonated again — but this time it didn’t just flow to him. It surged outward across the battlefield. Golden sigils ignited in the air around me — forming a vast circular glyph beneath my feet. Ancient symbols rotated slowly, humming with Queen-born authority. The Hunters froze. Even the lead Hunter stepped back. “Impossible…” he whispered. I didn’t understand what I was doing. But my body did. My blood did. My crown right did. I lifted my hand instinctively toward the Warden. “Release him.” The command left my lips before I knew I was speaking. The Warden’s claw — which had been moving to crush the King — halted mid-motion. Bound. Chains of pure golden light shot from the glyph beneath me, wrapping around its limbs. The beast roared, thrashing violently. The King rose from the crater — eyes blazing brighter than the Blood Moon itself. He looked at the chains… then at me. Recognition flashed across his face. “You’re manifesting throne command…” I didn’t know what that meant — but I felt the strain immediately. The Warden was fighting my authority. Cracks began forming in the golden chains. “I can’t hold it long!” I shouted. “You don’t need to.” He moved again — faster than before, thronefire blazing behind him like wings. He ran straight up the Warden’s chained arm — claws carving footholds through bone — until he reached its skull. The lead Hunter shouted: “Break her concentration!” Two Hunters lunged for me. I felt them coming — but I couldn’t release the chains without freeing the Warden. Fear spiked— Then something inside me shifted. Not fear. Instinct. Queen instinct. The glyph beneath me expanded suddenly. A second ring ignited. When the Hunters entered it— They dropped instantly to their knees. Crushed by invisible force. Submission. Forced by sovereign law. They couldn’t even lift their weapons. I stared in shock. “I… did that too?” Above us, the King drove both claws into the Warden’s skull. “Now, Queen!” I didn’t think. I pushed everything through the bond — every drop of power, fury, will. The thronefire around him turned blinding white-gold. He roared — a sound that carried command over beasts, shadows, and the Rift itself. Then he tore downward. The Warden split in two. A catastrophic explosion of spectral light ripped across the forest as the titan collapsed — disintegrating into ash that burned gold before fading into nothing. The Rift fissures sealed instantly. Silence fell. Heavy. Stunned. The Hunters stared at the aftermath — their formation broken, confidence shattered. The King landed before me, chest rising steadily, thronefire fading back to a simmer. He reached for my face — stopping just short, as if still restraining the urge. “You held throne command on your first manifestation,” he said quietly. His voice carried awe again. “Do you understand what that means?” I shook my head weakly. “I feel like I’m going to collapse…” He caught me instantly as my knees gave out — pulling me against him. “It means,” he murmured near my hair, “there has never been a Queen like you.” The lead Hunter stepped forward again — but slower now. Wary. “You’ve proven compatibility,” he admitted. “But that only strengthens the decree.” I tensed. He continued: “A fully awakened Queen and Throne-Bound King cannot be allowed to roam free.” The King’s arm tightened around me. “Try to take her again,” he said softly, “and I will end your entire order.” The Hunter studied us — then lowered his weapon slightly. “This battle is concluded,” he said. Relief flickered— Then died at his next words. “But the Citadel will come.” Cold dread slid down my spine. “You cannot fight the Moon Council,” he continued. “Not when they bring the Eclipse Chains.” Even the King went still at that. I felt the shift in him immediately. Not fear. But recognition of real threat. The Hunters began retreating into the trees. Before the lead one vanished, he spoke one final time: “Run if you wish, Beast King.” His glowing gaze settled on me. “But Queens cannot hide from the Moon forever.” They disappeared. The forest exhaled slowly as their presence faded. Only then did I realize how hard I was shaking. “The Eclipse Chains…” I whispered. “What are they?” The King didn’t answer immediately. His gaze was fixed on the sealed Rift… jaw tight. Finally he spoke: “The only weapon ever forged to bind a Queen.” My breath caught. “And break a King.” Silence fell between us. Heavy. War-laden. Then he looked down at me — softer again, but resolute. “We’re out of time.” “Time for what?” He brushed his thumb lightly beneath my mark — grounding me through the bond. “To reach my kingdom…” His eyes lifted toward the dark horizon. “…before the Moon Council reaches us first.” Far in the distance— Another horn began to sound. Deeper. Louder. Many answering at once. My heart pounded. “How many are coming…?” The King’s expression hardened into full war resolve. “All of them.” To Be Continued…
