Jewel's POV

"Gotta love a shifter fight for the hotties and they tasty morsels," Athens said as I stepped out of my bathroom washed and dressed.

"The hotties for sure." I chuckled as I plopped down in a chair across from Athens. "Found a tidbit we can work in our favor I think." I dropped the idea out.

"What?" Athens blue eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Gael's father was killed by the cat dude, but Lobos is presiding and taking power over it." I grinned.

Athens was the one who taught me Southern Wolf law. "The family of the member lost has complete rule over the trial of the person responsible. This law is power over Any other family in intercede." Athens recited with glee. "Do you know when the trial will be?" Athens raised a brow.

"Based on my pack link tomorrow more in the field where the issue happened this morning." I grinned.

"They still have no idea you have that?" Athens leaned forward to ask.

"Only us that knew since mom's place know." Athens seemed content with when I said that.

"I noticed you played it off that you can only speak a little Spanish." Athens seemed proud of that idea.

"I did." I nodded with a smile.

"Good girl, this is a lot like vampire politics. You have to not play all your cards." Athens had that proud papa look.

We worked out a plan with various ways it would go. Then we called in the original group that came from momma's ranch with me. We went over everything again. This time we went over possible events and let other give feedback for events we might not think of. Once we had a decent set of plans in place I went down to the Royal library with my brother to grab the most recent book of law and the most historic book of laws.

There we compared the law to the recent version. We both noted it had been amended in the book saying the oldest member of the 12 families has a ruling say in the event of any disturbance.

Lobos did this. My brother voiced it first in our mind link.

Yep, I think so. Let's grab other versions to see when it was changed. We got up with the two books to grab the others.

We grabbed 20 years' worth. After 5 minutes we saw that last year was the time it was changed. Just before the death of Gael's father. Indeed there was some foul play in it. We took the three texts with us back to the room. Handing them to Athens so he could put them in his study. There they would not go missing before we could intercede in tomorrow morning's events.

At dinner that night everyone chatted about things they saw or did while exploring the castle. We had a lot of laughs about various things that happened to a few.

"When does Tau get back?" I heard Max ask Hawk quietly.

"He said three days." Hawk's tone curt with a shrug.

Tau... I had spent most of the day without thinking about him. The distraction of Gael's issue had kept my mind busy. With his name, I felt my insides hurt. I could feel myself getting lost in my head.

"Training will start, tomorrow same time," Athens announced suddenly.

Every single person at the table groaned, except Hawk and me. It was part of daily life to train. It was the way we grew up. Part of everyday life. Hawk I knew was always one to get a kick out of everyone's groaning.

That evening after we all got to our rooms for sleep, I felt a shift in the area. It was like someone closed the door to the air around me. The air felt suddenly charged with energy that was buzzing.

What happened? I asked Hawk in mind link.

Dragon boundary has been set. He answered about a minute or two later.

Why is it buzzing around me? It didn't feel like that at the ranch.

My door burst open, as my brother shot past me directly to the curtains at the patio door. His growl was picking up pace as the floor started to rumble. The air got thicker as I couldn't breathe. Athens appeared, He too went to help Hawk. The air continued to be yanked out of my lungs until I heard the scream. My eyes darted to the sound of the scream as I watched a woman pulling Air from my brother as Athens got there to sink his fangs into her neck. He pulled back as a chunk of flesh he spat from her gushing black blood.

"Yuck!" Spat Athens wiping his mouth on his sleeve. "You ok?" He looked at Hawk.

"Yes," My brother's light brown eyes flashed to me. You ok?

Yeah, I am good. Thank you. I sat up taking gulps of air.

"Who hired you?" Athens growled as he turned the weird-looking creature around. She had two all-white eyes, long white hair, and pale skin. Her mouth was filled with sharp points.

"Head family," the woman hissed at Athens.

"Be more specific, there are 12," Athens growled. Hawk grabbed the back of her neck. I knew he was going to do what our dad had shown him. If you were strong enough you could crush the spine and still have a conversation before the pain hit them.

Crunch!

"Ahhhh," The creature screamed again, just after that, the entire team burst through my door.

"What the f**k is that!" Leon skidded a stop as Maxwell slammed into him from behind.

"Who!" Hawk's voice boomed with a mix of Tys and his.

"Lobos." she hissed as Athens longer forward ripping her head from her neck. He was covered with black blood that was stringy and sticky.

"No surprise there," Elder Braun snorted. Lory came to my side to see if I had anything that needed healing. I just needed air.

"I am going to wash again." Groaned Athens as he looked back at me.

"Thank you," I gave him a weak smile.

He nodded then disappeared out of the room instantly. "Well hello princess," Leon purred.

"Max," my brother's groaned the words as Leon was picked up and thrown over Max's shoulder with a thump!

"Hey, I was trying to talk to the Princess!" He yelled at Max as he was hauled out of the room. Everyone else started filing out except Elder Braun and Pinky.

"You want us to stay kiddo?" Elder Braun looked at me with his worried papa wolf stare.

"I am fine," I smiled at him.

"Ok," he nodded taking Pinky's hand as they started to leave.

"The dragon barrier is up," I added to their departing backs.

"I felt it go up." Pinky winked back at me. She knew that it meant Tau would be back. We were gonna need him, is I had only been here a night and Lobos was already trying to kill me.
