Chapter one

The night was like ink, weighing heavily on top of that magnificent manor. The wind, too, seemed to be suppressed by this grave atmosphere, only occasionally emitting a few low whimpers. Inside the manor, the blazing fire was like a raging demon, crazily devouring everything. The firelight was so intense that it lit up half of the night sky and reflected Irene Sanders' face full of fear and despair. "No! Father! Mother!" Erin cried out tearfully, trying to break free from the bystanders and rushing towards the sea of fire. Her eyes were vast, and tears continuously gushed out of her eyes like a torrent that broke the dike. Those originally beautiful and gentle eyes were now filled with pain and helplessness. Her hair fluttered messily in the wind as if it was also telling of the ruthlessness of this disaster. Her hands desperately stretched forward, wanting to grasp the hope that had already passed away. "Miss, you can't go, it's too dangerous!" The servants who were pulling her back shouted at the top of their lungs, fear and sadness equally written on their faces. However, it was as if Irene couldn't hear them, her heart having been completely consumed by the tragedy in front of her. The deep despair she felt as she watched her relatives struggling in the flames, unable to do anything about it, made her almost lose her mind. The fire burned relentlessly, devouring every inch of land and every life. The manor that was once full of laughter now became a hell on earth. The charred and blackened walls, the smoke and dust that filled the air, and the pungent smell of burning, all told of the tragedy of this disaster. Irene was like a puppet that had lost its soul, wandering stagnantly in the ruins. Her footsteps were weak and her eyes were empty, as if the entire world had collapsed. "Why? Why is it like this?" She muttered, her voice hoarse and desperate. Night fell once again, and moonlight poured through the thin clouds above the ruins. Erin walked muddledly to the edge of the manor, her body shaking as if a gust of wind could blow her over. Suddenly, a dazzling light crossed in front of her eyes like lightning, followed by an intense shock. Irene only felt a huge force coming at her, and her body instantly lost its balance, falling heavily to the ground. "Ah!" She let out a painful groan and lost consciousness as her eyes went black. Lucas Hart, the leader of the werewolf tribe, his deep eyes had been secretly watching Ayrin. When he learnt that Erin had met with an accident, his heart clenched violently and anxiety instantly filled his heart. "Quickly! Follow me!" Lucas shouted, leading his clan members to rush towards the scene like a speedy wind. His figure looked exceptionally tall and determined under the moonlight, his eyes filled with worry and urgency. "It has to be okay, Erin!" He prayed silently in his heart. When they arrived and saw Erin lying in a pool of blood, Lucas's eyes instantly reddened with a mixture of anger and heartache. "Erin!" He recklessly rushed over and held the unconscious Erin tightly in his arms, his voice trembling and urgent, "Wake up, don't scare me!" The clansmen gathered around, their faces filled with worry. "Chief, quickly send her to the hospital!" Someone shouted. Lucas didn't hesitate and rushed to the hospital as fast as he could while holding Eileen in his arms. Along the way, his heartbeat was like a rapid drumbeat, and beads of sweat continued to roll off his forehead. "Erin, hold on, you'll be fine." He mumbled as he ran. Upon arriving at the hospital, Lucas paced anxiously outside the operating theatre, his hands clenched into fists, his brow furrowed, his eyes filled with fear and anticipation. "Doctor, please, you have to save her!" Lucas gripped Dr Gregory's arm tightly, a hint of pleading in his voice. Dr Gregory nodded and said with a serious expression, "We'll do our best." After saying that, he turned around and walked into the operating room. Time passed by, each second seeming like a year to Lucas. He walked back and forth outside the operating theatre, the anxiety in his heart preventing him from waiting quietly. "Why isn't it healed yet? Erin, you have to hold on." Lucas murmured in a low voice, keeping his eyes glued to the door of the operating theatre. Suddenly, the door to the operating theatre opened and a nurse hurried out. Lucas immediately greeted him and nervously asked, "How's it going?" The nurse glanced at him and said, "The surgery is still in progress, but the situation is not too optimistic, the patient has lost too much blood." Lucas' heart instantly sank to the bottom, he took a deep breath and tried to keep himself calm. "No matter what, she must be saved." His voice was firm and strong. In the operating room, Dr Gregory and the other medical staff were doing their best to save Erin. Their foreheads were covered with beads of sweat, but the movements in their hands did not dare to stop at all. "Haemostat!" Dr Gregory shouted. The nurse quickly handed over the haemostat and the operation went on nervously. Finally, the lights went out in the operating theatre and Dr Gregory came out tiredly. "The surgery was quite successful, but she was hurt badly, it's up to her to wake up or not." Dr Gregory's words were like a bolt from the blue, causing Lucas' heart to sink instantly. "No, it won't ......," Lucas muttered, his eyes becoming dull and his body trembling slightly. During the days that Erin was in a coma, Lucas didn't move an inch from her bedside. He gently held Erin's hand, his gaze filled with deep love and concern. "Erin, you must wake up, I will always be with you." Lucas' voice was low and gentle as if he was telling an eternal vow. He tidied up Erin's hair and looked at her pale face, his heart filled with heartache. "You know what? From the first moment I saw you, I knew that you were the person I would guard for the rest of my life." Lucas said softly. At that moment, a nurse walked in and changed Erin's medicine. "How is she doing?" Lucas asked eagerly. The nurse shook her head and said, "Still no sign of improvement, but don't worry too much, maybe a miracle will happen." Lucas nodded, his gaze returning to Erin once again. "Erin, I'm sure you'll wake up, we still have a lot of wonderful things we haven't done together." Days passed and Erin remained unconscious. Anxiety and anxiety filled Lucas' heart. "What am I going to do if she doesn't wake up?" He looked at Erin's pale face and swore in his heart, "No matter what it takes, I will guard her."
