Chapter 17: Tears, Cheats, Disbelief

509 Words
"Ay Dios mio," said Cielo, shocked to hear all that Anahi had been through in Ejura. Who could ever think that your own people could ever be so cruel? That explained why everyone else lived in normal houses and Anahi's house was barely a hut. "After Granny died," said Anahi, wiping a tear away, "they burned the hut with her in it. Then they cut all of my hair off." "Anahi..." said Cielo, pulling her into a hug. "You know ma'am? When my cousin came to get me, I was happy. Maybe they had a change of heart, after all, Granny was their relative too." said Anahi, her voice breaking. "She sold you, didn't she?" "Yes." It killed Anahi to say it, but it was the bitter truth. That one bitter truth that kept her heart away from Mr. Dante. Cielo shook her head, ashamed at the people who welcomed her there. "Well, I'm glad my cousin bought you. Otherwise, who knows what kind of sick twisted men were there?" Anahi nodded, wiping her tears away. Just then Dante walked into the room. ********************* He didn't quite trust his cousin to be left alone with Anahi. But as he listened to their conversation, he felt sad that Anahi went through all of that. He wanted to ruin those who committed those atrocities to her and suddenly he was crying. He cried for every hurt his Anahi went through. What good deed had he done to have gotten such an angel? He didn't deserve her, he knew he didn't. He was such a horrid person and anyone in Spain could testify to it. His sins were to numerous for the Devil himself to keep track of and yet Anahi entered his life. He couldn't take it anymore, so he entered the room. Tears were streaming down his cheek as he walked towards Anahi and stumbled into her arms crying his heart out. This shocked Anahi, who'd never seen him cry since she got here. "Anahi, amoremio, lo siento." (Anahi, my love, I am sorry) Cielo was at loss for words. The only time she'd seen Dante cry was at his parents' funeral. Those were tears of mourning, but as she stared at him weeping in Anahi's arms, she saw cleansing tears. It seemed to her that after these tears would come a new man, a new Duke Dante Nublas. Anahi put her hand on his head, stroking his hair. "Don't cry for me." she said. "I'm sorry Anahi." he repeated over and over again. "I know you're sorry, but the past is in the past." "I'm sorry." She held him in his arms, not questioning his constant apologies. Cielo smiled. It seemed that somehow Dante was apologizing to those he'd wrong and was clearing his conscience. "I'll leave you two lovebirds alone. I'm going to my room." Cielo exited the room and Anahi looked down only to find the Duke fast asleep on her lap. Part of her was squealing and the other part worried, wondering what was his story.
