Chapter 18

Prom is finally here and I’m actually excited, maybe because it means I’m closer to starting a new chapter in my life. I’m looking forward to experiencing college life, at first I was nervous and didn’t want to leave my family behind but, it’s like every since I started I don’t know talking to or dating Tyler my dad has been on edge. We have been bumping heads every time Tyler is mentioned and my mom hasn’t been too happy about it. She complains about the rain ruining her garden because it’s too much, but I can’t help it because whenever I’m really upset I start crying. To help me control my emotions Grandmere was tasked with creating a bracelet for me that harnesses my negative emotions. The moon goddess or shall I say my dad forbids I lose control out in public. “Ariah, Ariah, earth to Ariah!” I snap out of my thoughts and look over and see Nesha looking at me with a worried expression on her face. “Are you ok, I’ve been calling you for like five minutes now. Your eyes were getting watery.” I wanted to tell her about me, that way she would know what was really going on with me, yet instead I was always vague with her when it came down to my responses. I didn’t like lying to her either, best friends don’t lie to each other. “I’m just thinking about how college will be, you won’t be there with me. I’ll be all alone fending for myself.” I say the last part with a smile to get her head out of worrying about me. She pulls me into a tight hug and reminds me that I’m a big girl and how she’s only a phone call away. My bedroom door swings open and in wasps my mother dearest “UGH are you two not up and ready yet? I came in here two hours ago to wake ya’ll up and the only thing ya’ll managed to do was sit up in the bed? Gosh girls, it’s a full day planned and I don’t have time to waste any time. You have numerous appointments which include nails, hair and makeup. Chop chop! Throw some clothes on and meet me downstairs in thirty minutes!” I looked over at Nesha and we just burst out laughing because we both know how my mom is and this little scolding is nothing compared to what we’re going to get if we don’t make it down those stairs in thirty minutes. We jumped out of the bed and both of us threw on some sweats and a fitted t-shirt. Ran in the bathroom and brushed our teeth and washed our face. We didn’t care about putting our hair up as it didn’t matter to us since we’ll be getting it down so wild hair don’t care for the time being. With five minutes to spare we ran down the hall to the stairs and met my mom at the door. Our first stop was the nail salon, we both kind of got the same design except Nesha’s main color was red and mine was rose gold. While we were there we got our eyebrows waxed and my mom was enjoying her massage. Everything was perfect timing as my mom was walking out of the masseuse room we were getting out of the wax car. My mom loved us enough and didn’t let us starve and look us to breakfast which I gladly appreciated given my stomach was talking to my back. I literally never miss a meal and missing breakfast silently killed me. After breakfast, we went and picked my dress up from the boutique. I did the final fitting yesterday. My mom hasn't seen our dresses yet and I’m surprised she didn’t sneak a look at Nesha’s dress last night. It’s going on one in the afternoon and we are now headed to go get our hair done. I’m thinking of a simple yet cute updo to show off my neck and face structure while Nesha is set on a half up half down hairstyle. So far it has been a long and exhausting day and I just want a nap before anything else happens, but no luck my way. We were at the hair salon for almost four hours. I was literally on the verge of just doing my own perm rod curls, but my mom wasn’t having that. For starters the appointments before us ran over so instead of sitting in the chair at our scheduled time we waited almost an hour. The same stylist that did my hair did Nesha’s as well. We headed back to my house and there waiting on us was the makeup artist. Makeup took up an hour of our time and I was very impressed with the outcome. My eyes were a red smokey eye color, I had some false lashes for the first time and when I say they made my eyes and eye color pop. I loved the way she filled in my eyebrows, she gave me exactly what I asked for a natural look but focused on my eyes and she did just that. Me and Nesha looked at eachother and did a once over and we both nodded and smiled in approval. We have thirty minutes to get ourselves together now since Tyler called and said he’ll be here at seven to pick us up, we rushed upstairs to put our dresses on. Before I made it to the stairs I peeked into the kitchen and saw my mom had a small gathering going. Leave it to her, she’ll celebrate everything. Turning my attention back to the mission in hand when I reached my room Nesha already had her dress on and she looked beautiful. I opened my dress bag and took a deep breath. I was excited and nervous at the same time, I slipped my dress on and had Nesha zip it up for me. We then paired our jewelry together and finally our heels. “Are you ready for a night of fun? A night to be free?” I couldn’t help but nod at Nesha in response because she was so excited and I was still nervous. “You look breathtaking, Tyler mind is going to be blown with your beauty you know. You don’t have to be so nervous, it’s not like y'all are getting married… Relaxe. Chill. Deep breaths.” I did as she requested and took deep breaths and then walked hand and hand downstairs to the backyard. The first person to notice us was my dad and he had the biggest smile on his face. When my mom noticed him looking our way she turned around and started gushing. Our dress was a trumpet/mermaid satin style, shoulderless on the left and a long sleeve on the right. Our dress had a train that was lined with feathers as well and the long sleeve hem. The middle was cut deep down to the belly button and the top half, as well as a little bit of our hip down to our knees, was sequin. After a few photos, I saw a matte gray f-pace jaguar pull into the driveway and climbing out was no other but Valtino. If I say he looked good, that would be an understatement, I did not expect for myself to gawk at him. It wasn’t until he walked over to the passenger door and helped his date out of the car that I stopped staring. They looked cute with purple and black on, they walked over to the crowd and started talking to my dad. After I composed myself, I was trying to figure out why he was even here to begin with. But that was shortly answered by my dad. “I wanted to see Val before he went off so I asked him to stop by here beforehand.” Shortly after, a black on black audi s7 pulled in and out came Tyler. I can’t explain what he’s looking like but if I could yummy it would be it. His suit complimented our dresses perfectly and I can tell he was stunned as well, because his eyes didn’t leave mine after he looked me up and down while licking his lips. His suit was rose gold with red lining, it went well with his chestnut complexion. We took a few more pictures then headed out to our destination.
