Chapter 10

Ariah The view that stands in front of me actually blows my mind and my jaw dropping expression turns into the biggest smile as I climb up the stairs. There are clear and purple lights running around the door frame that goes to the roof. Right across the door is a ‘Happy Birthday’ banner and there are gift bags and boxes on the floor. I turn to look at Nesha and her smile matches mine. I thought my BestFriend loved me so much and went out of her way to surprise me, no wonder she didn’t want me to leave early. But then… the person standing a few feet away from her catches my eye. Now my eyes are wide as saucers (still have a smile yet confused look on my face though). He’s standing there with his hands behind his back just smiling. ”Hi Tyler….. I didn’t see you there..” is all I can get out of my mouth before I c**k my head to the side, that’s when I realize he’s standing in the middle of rose petals. “What’s this?” He bends down and grabs the poster board that’s next to him on the ground and holds it up in front of his face. I start to read it and Nesha cuts me off telling me to read it out loud, so I do as I’m told. In large bold cursive it says ‘I'VE ALWAYS HAD MY EYES ON YOU. THAT IS VERY TRUE… BUT I WAS HOPING TO ASK YOU A QUESTION, CAN I GO TO PROM WITH YOU?’ Tyler pulls the poster down from his face and I’m very shocked. I honestly never thought more into what we had spoken of before. More so because we didn’t talk outside of school hours, yea I’ll catch him stealing looks here and there but that’s it. I look over at Nesha and she’s still smiling and when I look back over at Tyler, he has my favorite flowers in his hand… rainbow roses. The look on his face is nervous, not only can I see the expression I sense how nervous he is. I wonder if it is because he thinks I’m going to tell him no? I’m definitely not going to tell him no, a crush towards him has been growing since our juvenile conversation a while back. Not to mention, it will greatly please my mom’a that I have an actual date for prom. I twitch up my lips and my nose scrunches a little and then I smile and nod my head yes. Tyler is no longer grinning but smiling so big it stretches from ear to ear. Nesha is jumping with joy and blurts “I can’t wait to see a marriage proposal!” I look at her and have to tell her to slow down now. When Tyler engulfed me in a hug, I couldn’t help but smell him, he smelled amazing and started to laugh when he realized I kept sniffing. His scent was very faint with a mix of his cologne, that’s because our senses don't fully kick in until we shift. ---- After a very exciting morning and finding out Nesha in fact did not get me a birthday lunch, I headed home to assist my mom with these birthday plans of hers. When I walked into the house it was smelling AHH-mazing, my mom is literally a jack of all trades. She had everything she needed for chicken pasta, parmesan wings, salad, and fruit salad  spread around on the counter. Half of the cake was already out of the oven and she was decorating it. From what I can see and smell it's going to be a beautiful yet delicious cake.  As the day passed my senses heightened, I was able to smell the strawberry whipped buttercream icing my mom was putting on the marble cake from my room. Given I can never decide between white or chocolate marble was always my mom’s go to for me, even though I knew she can make any flavor, her famous strawberry icing was better with those basic flavors, the cake nor the icing overpowered the other. When I opened my window to enjoy the spring breeze, the commotion that was happening on the end of the block was loud and clear like it was in front of our home. We lived in a wooded area for my dad’s purposes, so none of the houses were anywhere near each other. How far apart we were from our neighbors always had put me in the mind of the country. Our house was the closest to the woods and we had land for days. My dad was able to fit a tennis, volleyball area along with an inground pool and a training/workout area. Let’s not forget how much of a sucka he is for my mom, that he built her an outside kitchen and mini bar shed a few years ago and we still had land left with two gardens, one for flowers and the other for my mom to grow fruits and veggies. It was a beautiful landscape and my mother seemed to keep it up and thriving. The coming of the night was something I couldn’t wait for, I wanted to see the night clear as day and couldn’t wait. “Sooo…. you’re not excited to see me tonight, just being able to see in the dark is all you’re excited about?” Were the questioning words invading my mind. I simply scoffed and laughed, of course my wolf would feel some type of way. She’s been talking non stop all day. It had put me in the mind of when I first started talking to her.    Flashback…. A little after my fifth birthday a voice just popped up in my head, it was talking and talking and talking, I couldn’t get it to stop, it was super excited. I was a little freaked out at first until she calmed down and properly introduced herself. Then I felt her excitement and we shared the same excitement, she was a friend that I didn't expect and came out of nowhere. For like the first week I didn't tell anyone, my parents just thought I had an imaginary friend especially for the fact that I would talk out loud instead of in my mind. The week they found out was the week my uncle had a pack BBQ to welcome the new season and invited us. I was playing in the sandbox making my very own sand palace and one of the bigger kids came over and stomped on it, next thing I know I was literally growling at him. He ran off scared and I was shocked that I had growling like an animal. My dad came over to see what the commotion was and when I told him, he looked at me with a tilted head and raised eyebrow. Next thing I knew, he was in my mind talking to me, my eyes grew big and my expression mirrored his expression. “DO NOT TELL ANYONE THIS EXCEPT FOR YOUR MOM” he whisper yelled in my mind. I just nodded, still shocked that I could hear him in my mind. For the rest of the day my dad kept me close and when we made it home, he broke the news to my mom who just looked as shocked as the rest of us. My dad explained to me that it was very rare for a wolf to awake before the age of sixteen and never heard of it ever happening to a five year old. Due to their history I was to keep this secret between just us and no one else, later on my dad started teaching me how to mind link and helped me talk to Nanami within my mind and not out loud. He informed me as I got older I would have people questioning my sanity if they saw me holding a conversation with myself. End of Flashback… Now to think about it, if only I had my sassy comebacks when I was younger. Now I see my sanity only being questioned IF I answered or responded to myself.
