EPISODE TWO: THE WORST CAN HAPPEN The following morning was dull. A cool breeze was whistling that chilly morning. Things seemed so different from the normal life’s days. Visitors, neighbors, relatives were storming in and out of Emily’s home, they came to comfort Emily’s family during the mourning period. Due to that, Emily and Aaliyah could not go to school and also their mother could also not go to work. Emily’s cousins arrived that very morning. Their uncle ensured that their cousins arrived so early so that they could give Emily and Aaliyah company during this hard time. That week was not only a sad one but also a busy one for Emily’s family, they were busy as bees with burial preparations. They did everything that can be done to ensure that their done received an executive burial ceremony. The family arranged committee meetings which were held to ensure that the burial ceremony was a success. Emily’s dad being an influential person in their town, the news had spread like a wild fire, they were all over even on social media. This led to lots of people being concerned on the burial preparation. Hi friends travelled from different parts of the country to come and give their condolences to the family of the deceased. Those who were not able to go sent their messages of condolences and even sent help. The burial ceremony was approaching, and from their look it was going to be a success as they had prepared adequately. The day finally arrived, it was at this day their dad was going to be laid to rest and also it was the day to bid their final goodbye. “On that very day I woke up feeling a bit weak, as I was yawning I remembered that this was the day that we were going to bid our dad goodbye, sadness, sorrow hit me hard when I remembered that, I couldn’t stop my tears from running down my cheeks. I remember someone came knocked at my bedroom’s door that very morning, I hesitated a bit so that I could wipe my tears, my aunt was quick to notice that I had been crying, she hugged me tight and she told me that that was life, she told me life is both bitter and sweet and I had to understand that anything even the worst can happen but I had to be strong and succumb the waves and all was going to be well, after the conversation I felt a bit stronger and we headed to prepare so that we could head to the burial,” Emily remembers. They left home to the morgue to pick their dad and for the body viewing session. It was a sad day for real, it was the day that they had to swallow the bitter truth that their dad, friend, workmate, brother was not there anymore. They headed to the church for the mass session, the church was full to capacity, everyone in black and with roses in their hands. Aaliyah could not stop sobbing, she loved her dad so much that the situation was worst was her. A few minutes after the arrival the mass began, the Priest led the mass session. It was time for the speech session. They followed the program from the eulogy. Family representatives, friends of their dad, parents former class mates gave their tribute each of them of them remembering the good times they spent with Mr. Alex, Emily’s dad. Emily also was to give her tribute, though it was so hard for her she gathered strength and she was able to finish her speech. It was time for Mrs. Christine, Emily’s mum, to deliver her speech. She had worn elegantly, a long black dress, black heels, a black hat and black specs. She majestically walked to the podium where she was to deliver her speech. She cleared her throat smoothly and started giving her tribute. “It’s been twenty years since we met with my late husband, meeting him was something that I will never forget or regret in my whole lifetime. When I first met him he was so cool, humble, kind and wise. He was the type of person who believed in kindness, sharing love and gentleness to others, even when we got our first kid, Emily, he always made sure we lived the best life, he worked hard to provide for his family, he was really a good dad!” As she was delivering her speech a lady from the back of the church screamed and everyone shifted their attention to the screaming lady. “Mr. Alex was also my husband,” she shouted as she held a kid by her hand. Everyone in the church was shocked by what the lady had said. They could not believe such an incident would happen in a burial ceremony. “This kid beside me is his son!” she continued. Mrs. Christine broke into tears after the remarks of the lady behind. The relatives had to calm down the lady until the burial was over. The Priest finished the mass, and it was time to head to the cemetery. It was such a hard time for the family. They had to let the lady be part of them as Mr. Alex’s wife also. At the cemetery they said a short prayer and they bod Mr. Alex the last goodbye. Mrs. Christine was so stressed after what had unfolded that day. It was so harsh for her. The lady had photos her, the kid and Mr. Alex in their house, she had enough evidence to prove that for real he was also her husband. It also affected Emily and Aaliyah they could not believe that their dad had a mistress. It was hard time for their relatives to convince them that everything would be okay. The family was really going through a lot. That very night they held a meeting to see how they would handle the situation. They had to prepare adequately incase the lady went to court to ask for her inheritance share. They prepared all documents and they let fate do its work, they slept hoping that a new day would dawn and let them solve the issue. That night Emily remembered her aunt’s word that life is both bitter and sweet and the worst can come out of life.
