Chapter 12

792 Words
Zander's POV Upon arriving at Palace of Stars, I signed in at the entrance. Then, I greeted Maxwell. As I put down the pen, Tawny immediately linked her arm with mine. I instinctively frowned, not fond of her closeness. But for such occasions, it's customary to have a female companion. Since Jessica and I had that argument and she left home, I hadn't had a suitable choice. Today, out of the blue, Warren called me, asking me to bring Tawny to the banquet. She's Warren's niece. Though we're relatives, we haven't had much connection. I made small talk with her and realized she had no experience with business banquets. She lacked proper etiquette. So, I had to instruct her not to stray far from me. Perhaps because of my advice or due to her first-time nervousness at such an event, Tawny's arm remained tightly linked with mine. "Alvin, thank you so much for coming. I was wondering how your father, Mr. Riddle, is doing?" I heard Maxwell's voice from the sign-in desk behind me. My heart skipped a beat. It sounded like the son of the Riddle Group's chairman. The Harrison Group's business in Los Angeles is widespread. But to achieve greater breakthroughs, we need better partners. I've been eager to establish a connection with the Riddle Group in New York. Unexpectedly, I'd encounter someone from the Riddle Group here. I immediately stepped aside, allowing others to pass. Then, I turned and walked back towards the sign-in desk. "Mr. Riddle, it's an honor to meet you. Let me introduce myself. I'm Zander from the Harrison Group," I said calmly. As soon as I finished speaking, Alvin and his companion turned around. I instantly saw the woman standing next to Alvin, my wife, Jessica. "Jessica? What are you doing here?" The question escaped my lips without thinking. She was wearing a gem-blue evening gown I'd never seen before, the skirt adorned with diamonds like a vast starry sky. Yet, the dress couldn't overshadow Jessica's charm and radiance. "Of course, I'm here accompanying Mr. Riddle," Jessica replied with a smirk, seemingly not surprised to see me. I didn't know why Jessica had suddenly joined Alpha. But in just a few days, she could attend a banquet with the CEO? "What's your relationship?" I couldn't help but ask. "What does it matter to you?" Jessica's expression turned cold. I felt something blocking my heart and, after a moment of silence, I said in a deep voice, "You're my wife. Can't I even ask?" "Jessica works in my company," Alvin introduced with a smile. Jessica looked at Alvin with a gaze full of tenderness. After Alvin spoke, he leaned close to Jessica's ear and asked with concern, "Are you alright? If you don't feel well, we can skip the banquet." Jessica shook her head gently, "I'm fine. Why would I let him affect my mood? Let's get in." Their intimate interaction stung my eyes. As they were about to leave, I immediately wanted to follow, but suddenly my arm was tightly grasped. I frowned at Tawny, who gave an apologetic smile. She turned to Jessica and suddenly spoke, "Jessica, I mean, Mrs. Harrison, how could you hurt your husband like this? Do you know how worried Zander has been just because he was unable to contact you? He searched everywhere, almost missing the banquet." Jessica paused, turning to look at Tawny. Her tone carried a hint of mockery, "Since you're addressing me as Mrs. Harrison, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?" Her gaze swept over our linked arms. I suddenly felt guilty and quickly withdrew my arm. Tawny put on a wronged expression. I hurriedly said, "Tawny is Winnie's niece, my aunt I introduced you to before. I gave Serena the day off, and I happened to need a companion..." "Alright," Jessica stopped my explanation, indifferently saying, "I don't care, nor do I mind. Just hope you can do the same and not interfere in my work and life." She tried to pass by me, and I reached out to stop her. "Excuse me, Mr. Harrison, we'd like to get in first," Alvin's voice sounded. I instantly regained my senses and composure. Alvin maintained his gentlemanly smile, nodding politely to me before leading Jessica towards the venue. Tawny softly said, "Mr. Riddle, please take good care of Jessica." Alvin glanced at her. With an apologetic smile, she continued, "You might already know that she had an argument with Zander. She hasn't been home for several days, and we don't know where she's staying. Seeing her now, I think Zander be somewhat relieved. But since she's unwilling to be her husband's plus-one, I can only ask you to take care of her. Otherwise, Zander would be very worried."
