I don't wait long. Can't.
The moment the doctor finishes checking my vitals and unhooks the IV for the night, I'm out the door. My body protests, but none of that matters right now.
I find her in the hallway outside Rosa's room. Her back is to me, but I'd recognize her anywhere. The curve of her shoulders. The way she holds herself when she's trying to be strong.
"Kaia."
She releases a sigh that seems to come from somewhere deep. Doesn't turn around.
I take a step closer. "I know you're pissed. I get it. But I need you to see this from my perspective. When your wolf didn't recognize me, I thought—"
She bursts into tears.
Not quiet crying. Not a single tear rolling down her cheek. Full, body-shaking sobs that cut off whatever speech I had planned.
