KAIA I press my forehead against the cool glass of Talia's car window, watching the trees blur past. The window's cracked just enough to let the mountain air sweep through, carrying the scent of pine and earth. "You okay?" Talia asks, glancing at me from the driver's seat. "Yeah." The lie tastes stale on my tongue. "Just thinking." She doesn't push, which I appreciate. We've been driving for maybe twenty minutes now, heading toward Lewis's pack territory. The further we get from Moonfang, the lighter I feel—and the guiltier I feel for feeling lighter. Vincent wasn't happy about this visit. That's putting it mildly. "You want to go WHERE?" His voice is controlled, but I see the flash of gold in his eyes. Pure Alpha possessiveness barely restrained. "To Lewis's pack," I repeat calmly.
