“S-Sam!” I sputtered, pushing Anika off me, my eyes wide as I stared in shock at Sam. She was flanked by Audrey, two women, and three men… one of them being Mack. They all stared at me in confusion, starting between Anika, Sam and I.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, my heart thudding wildly in my chest as I attempted to move towards Sam. Anika grabbed my hand, interlocking it and I stared down at our hands before looking back up at her, shock and confusion in my eyes.
Anika stared back at me, her eyes glassy yet determined. Her fingers tightened possessively around mine before she glanced at Sam.
Oh, no.
“What am I doing here?” Sam asked, her voice breaking from tears as her eyes filled with disbelief and hate. “You promised me there was nothing between you.”
“There isn’t!”
