The party proceeded into the brightly lit space, the moss from the outer deck extending into the small structure. Intricately woven mats lay atop the mossy ground in layers, while embroidered tapestries hung from the walls. The room was quaint and had a single table inside. As everyone filed into the room, they all gathered around the small table.
"As I previously stated in my message, the Elders have requested that I give you a short briefing before we depart on our current pursuit." Began San Da, who stood at the apex of the table. “It appears as though the sorcerer has abandoned his work and they are quite displeased with this. Therefore, they have instructed us to set out in search of him.”
Fin and Kalista, who stood next to each other, shared a glance at each other. Both had many questions that seemed to be raised during this development. Fin stood with his arms crossed across his chest and spoke in a stern tone “ And why is it pertinent that we know this information. We have been gathering information regarding the mainland’s possible military actions. Retrieving a deserter shouldn’t concern us.” Cecile, Bren, and Morrow nodded in agreement. Kalista remained impassive as she rested one hand on her hip and let the other hang at her side.
San Da huffed at his objection and spoke in irritation at being interrupted before she could finish. “While normally this is true…they believe that he has sought refuge with less than favorable company. And as we all know, he can cause quite a nuisance when he is feeling bored.”
Again, they exchanged a look, “Aspen.” Kalista said under her breath. She brought her fingers up to rub her temples. Fin let out an exasperated sigh. “So, what then? We are just supposed to abandon everything we have been working on to chase some ruffian and his runaway companion. I’m sure that you will be able to deal with this matter just fine on your own.”
Kalista reached out to place a hand on her husband’s arm in an attempt to soothe his anger. She could tell that he was already feeling like this interaction had been a waste of their time. San Da shook her head before smoothing the non-existent wrinkles in her robes. “Captain, I am not telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. I am only relaying a message, as I was instructed to do”, she began, moving towards the door of the small room. “Now, if you would. I would appreciate if you were on your way.”
Fin blanched at the dismissal before huffing and heading towards the door. “Hurry up, let's go!” he said to the rest of his party. On que the soldiers scrambled to follow the hastily retreating captain, Kalista followed in a much slower pace. Stopping in front of San Da, she bowed, “Your ship is quite magnificent, thank you for having us aboard.” San Da tilted her head in acknowledgement. “Be blessed on your endeavors, Lady Kalista.” And with that, Kalista proceeded back to the Emerie. And back to what she was sure would be a very irate captain.
