Chapter 103: The Nightmare

The nightmare clung to me tightly despite the fact that I was regaining conscience slowly but surely.
In my dream, I had lost everything – Ollie died from neglect and from a heart attack that I couldn't stop on time, Luna's heart giving out from the severed mate bond, both of them gone because I had chosen Riley's birthday party over my own family.
The guilt and devastation felt so real that even as I began to wake, part of me believed it was true.
I could still hear Luna's final words echoing in my mind, as I held her dying body begging her to stay with me:"Next time, we'll be free."
The image of her lifeless body in my arms, cold and still, made my chest squeeze with panic that my breath was coming out in shallow gasps.
