---POV Res--- My eyes shot up in shock. I completely forgot my place and his glare was enough for my eyes to meet the floor again. He told me he doesn’t do presents. Except for the black lace around my neck, but this accessory was also a rule. Rule number two: In my presence, always present yourself as mine. “But you said –” Again, I could feel his eyes shoot in my direction and I zipped my lips. “It's been three years. I think that's worth a gift. I do not want anything in return.” Just because we are bonded to each other doesn’t mean we have this lovey-dovey relationship that you usually see with wolves. First off, we aren’t the lovey-dovey type of people. We both prefer it this way and it has been harmonious ever since. I can be myself and so can he. However, he has gotten more relaxed around me since the first time we met. Now his expression is nothing but love and it is so soothing. Accept when I break the rules. The rules we made together. In my defense…sometimes they are made to be broken. Sometimes I want them to be broken. “I’m sorry, sir, but can I get you just a small trinket?” He sighed and sat back on the lounge chair. I peeked my eyes through my lashes just enough to see him close his. He shifted his weight and the time between his response and my question felt like an eternity. Rule Number Three: I am always on his time unless otherwise stated. Waiting is not voluntary. However, even though, my favorite rule, Rule Number Four: No Gifts, was about to be broken, I still did my best to follow the others. We both come from wealthy families and it’s…quite annoying to always have people wanting something from us. Especially since, even though my family is wealthy, I wouldn't see a cent of it. So, we want to make sure that isn’t in our relationship. “Something small.” He finally responded. I grinned happily and fumbled for my pocket. I was slightly disappointed that all my practice over the week had gone to waste. It was nice to have the distraction when I was home, but I’m just surprised at how lenient he is getting. When we first met, he’d never bend the rules. ---Three Years Ago--- Lima, Faith and I were laughing our a*ses off when we came across Wes. The sniveling vampire that follows around the president like a sick puppy. To be honest, I’m surprised to see him alone. “What do you want, Wes.?” Faith said irritably. “I finally caught you three in the act!” He shouted and we all froze and looked at him. “Follow me!” He hissed. We scoffed and turned to head the other direction. If we didn’t care about the Elder council, what made this i***t think we would care about the student council? We started to walk off while he whined behind us, only to be stopped by Timothy, the vice president. Sh*t. “Oh come on, Tim!” Faith shouted. “Sorry Faith. I can’t ignore this. You blew up half the chem labs!” He growled. I bit the inside of my cheek. Faith said that Tim was one of the president’s friends but he’s the nice one if she had to choose between the two. “Come on dude. Those stupid witches had it coming. They hexed poor Lima for three days! We couldn’t even move her back into the room. She was an actual statue for three days!” Faith fought back. I always wondered why she knew so much about the council when she fought against it so adamantly. She was so...comfortable around them. “Then you should have come to the council.” Tim said, folding his arms and raising an eyebrow. He was muscular and nice to look at, don’t get me wrong, but not like drool worthy. His short brown hair and bright green eyes made him quite unique for a hybrid. Most have orange or red eyes to signify their mix with vampire blood. Unlike purebloods, they cannot shift their eye colors. They stay as they were when they were born. Orange or red. However, he is apart of the hybrid royal family, so he’s as close to a pure hybrid as you can get. His eyes turned to me. “The mastermind. Res, was it?” He said and smirked. “And?” I snapped back. Again, I don’t do rules. “And what?! You have corrupted the vampire princess and brought this lawn ornament along with you!” Wes hissed behind us and I turned and dropped him flat on his a*s. My wings shot out behind me in full force as I slammed his head into the ground. I only heard the disrespect. I didn't care about anything else he had said. “Don’t you ever disrespect Lima in front of me! I don’t care who you are. I will knock you’re a*s out!” I shouted as I had him pinned to the ground under my black converse. He wiggled and I pressed further into his chest. “Enough!” Tim shouted. I turned to look at him just long enough for that leech to get back to his feet and grip my arms behind my back. “Let me go!” “Not on your life! You will pay for this!” Wes shouted and pushed me toward the center of the quad. “Follow him.” Tim said shortly, and Faith scoffed. “I will, if he lets go of Res.” Faith spat. “Not going to happen.” Tim countered. I turned just a bit to see him push both Lima and Faith along behind me. I tried to wriggle out of his grip, and I felt the bruises forming. I had to stay calm though. I can’t give myself away because of this imbecile. “Move!” He shouted and pushed us into the administration building. Ugh, I hated this place. I swore never to step foot back into this building after my mother – if you want to call her that – dropped me off and disappeared all in the same instant. However, I also know who else is housed here. The president. I continued to try and wiggle myself out of his grasp and I did contemplate opening my wings. Maybe that will confuse him long enough for me to get myself out of here, but I don’t know if I can get Faith and Lima out along with me. I can’t have them suffer this punishment, whatever it maybe, alone. I huffed and decided to comply. No use exerting anymore energy. Once we made it to the top floor. We stood outside a mahogany door that seemed to carry its own ominous aura. Tim walked around us and pushed the door open. “Faron, sorry to bother you bro, but we finally caught those tricksters and the ring leader of the pranks around the school.” “Enter.” Was all he said in the most mouthwatering bass voice. I gasped at myself. What the hell was I thinking? “Move it!” Wes shouted before pushing me into the room. I stumbled a bit and caught myself by opening my wings, flapping a couple times and placing myself back on my feet. “What the hell!?” I shouted angrily as I turned to the ameba, trying to exert dominance. Wes was about to say something when the booming voice from earlier enveloped the room. “Enough!” I froze where I stood and felt my entire body tingle. My core started to ache and I realized that I wasn’t just interested in his voice. My body was physically attracted to him. I turned to look into his eyes as he glared at mine. For a split second, it seemed as if he was taken off guard as well, but he corrected this mistake almost immediately. “Ha!” Wes scoffed. Was that supposed to be his comeback? “Get out.” Faron growled. I know he is a pureblood vampire, but his 6’6 muscular frame and glaring ash-blue eyes made me think I was looking at a wolf. He was massive. Wes whimpered and scurried out. “Tim, you can stay.” He said shortly. Tim sat at another desk to the left of his while the president walked around to face us. “Start talking.” He said to Faith. “Psshh. There isn’t anything to talk about. The witches wanted to play, so we happily obliged.” She said, just as snarky as he did. He's the Vampire King's heir and she's talking to him with absolutely no respect. I thought vampires have to respect their hierarchy almost to a fault. Strange. He grit his teeth and looked at Lima, then his sister, then me. “Who started this?” “The witches!” Faith and I shouted irritably. I don’t care what this guy does to me. I’m a young adult. Anyone with red blood in their veins would think this guy was s*x on legs. “Then your stupid henchman decided to disrespect Lima. Probably the most innocent out of the three of us and Res put him on his a*s. He one-hundred percent deserved it!” Faith called. “Enough, Faith. Take Lima and get out. Tim, I got what I need. You can leave as well.” Thank the goddess, we were being allowed to leave. An eye for an eye should at least resonate with this guy, if nothing else. I took a deep breath and started to walk out with Faith and Lima. “You stay.” I heard him say, but with less of an irritation in his voice. I froze at the door and turned to him while Faith and Lima looked between us. “Yes, you.” He said again. “You can’t just –” Faith started. “OUT!” He shouted and Faith immediately zipped her lips and ran out with Lima. “You hurt her and I will kill you!” Faith shouted once the door closed behind her. Does she have a death wish?! “Come.” He said to me and I slowly walked up to him, but not too close. He pushed himself off the edge of his desk and walked around me slowly. “Mine.” That was all he said, and I froze where I stood. “You…. Wait what?!” I gasped in shock, deciding if it would be better to run or to allow this massive vampire to claim his prize. I mean, I was only here because one of our...pranks got out of hand and now I'm standing in front of my chosen?! He furrowed his brow before gliding his hand down my arm, leaving goosebumps in his wake. “Reslinda…. Second Princess of the Fae. That is my eternal? I’m bound to a fairy. Interesting.” His reactions. I can't read them at all! What does interesting mean? Is it good? Bad? Ugh, I have enough people in my life that hate me. Then, my eyes grew. Does...does my chosen hate me too? I stepped away from him, realizing that even though fae are allowed to choose their mate, if I am his bonded pair, then I don’t have a choice. He can reject me at will. Just like everything else in my life, not only does he hate me, but he's taking away my choice. I raised my head up and glared at him. “What does that mean exactly?” I asked, trying my best to keep myself from freaking out. I waited for a response and he didn't give me one. His cool eyes bored into mine like they were searching for something important. I sighed, already defeated. Sometimes it's better that way. I'm used to it now. “Just reject me and get it over with. I'm sure you have better things to do.” That hurt a lot more to say than I thought. He leaned down towards my ear and I gulped. “It means that you are going to be mine. Body and soul. Rejection is not an option.” His demanding tone riddled through my body like a subtle warmth I've been craving for decades. I want this. I want him. My body won't let me think otherwise. I thought about the few times I’ve dated someone and the craving I needed for freedom…. For a distraction to my never-ending stress, courtesy of my family and something in me said it might be fun to allow this to happen. If he isn't going to reject me, then let's see if he can handle me. “What if I said that I required a more…firm hand in a relationship?” I asked, expecting that to creep him out. He stood back up to his full height and the grin in his eyes spoke volumes as they flashed red. “Then, I guess that means the moon goddess really does know our souls.” “What does that mean?” “It means that I was very specific with my words, Reslinda. I will give you exactly what you need as long as you are a good girl. I’m sure that will be a challenge for you, but I cannot wait to see you try.” G-Good girl? I felt my cheeks redden but I couldn’t help the smile that fell on my lips. “Yes, sir.” I moaned softly and he smirked. “This will be fun.” He added, and I immediately agreed. “Now, for my favorite part. It's time to give you some rules, sweetheart.” He hummed and I squeaked as the next thought was held captive in my throat. He stared at me and when I didn't answer, he had gripped my waist, pulling me close to him without a single thought. “Words.” He growled lowly. I whimpered and nodded before looking up into his eyes. “Yes, sir,” This is going to be fun. ---Present--- I shook myself out of that memory and wondered why that was the first thing I thought of when I looked at his present I had tucked away in my pocket. I finally get to give him something to show him that I’m his and…and he’s mine too. “I hope you don’t mind. I already got something. I was going to leave it somewhere when I left but…but maybe we can open our gifts together?” I bit my lip and looked back down at the floor when he didn’t say anything. I gripped his gift in my hand. The small box had a simple maple exterior and a brass clasp, holding it shut. “Warning.” Warning? I thought to myself, then I realized it. Again with my lip…. Sometimes I swear he made that rule, Rule Five: No lip biting, because he knew he could punish me for it. I released my lip from my pearly whites, and waited for him to approve the fix. “Good. Now, since it is our anniversary, I don’t mind spoiling you. You may release.” He said. I looked up happily and realized he was smiling too. I moved the box he gave me to the side and I relaxed. Kicking my legs from underneath me before shimmying to the side of my cushion and letting my legs fall over the side. I still have to keep my legs to one side and stay in a poised position with my back slightly arched when he releases me, but at least I don’t have to sit on my knees. I couldn’t help my smile getting bigger and my body wriggled a bit as I put my gift in my lap and held out my hand for him to take his. Faron gently took the box from my hand and pushed himself to the end of his chair. Studying the gift, he tilted it to the side and held it as if it was priceless. These were the first gifts we gave each other…. Maybe because of that truth, it was priceless. “Are you going to tell me or do I have to be surprised.” I grinned mischievously and he lifted a brow. “Sorry sir, but –” He cleared his throat, and I stopped mid-sentence. I looked at him quizzically. “Yes?” I asked. “Faron.” He said. “What, sir?” I asked again. I’m not sure I was understanding this. He took his free hand and rubbed the back of his neck. He seemed a bit…hesitant today…. This is new. “Even though we are bonded by fate, I wanted to say something. I have never had someone stay with me and appreciate what I...enjoy so perfectly. Now that I have, I’m not going anywhere. I hope you aren’t either…. So, I’m amending a rule indefinitely. You can drop the formality…unless, of course…I require it in scene.” I blushed bright red. I love it when we are in scene. He’s so strong, but gentle and the perfect other half. The rush of his embrace and dominance is unbearable to ignore and all my thoughts went straight to those luscious memories. Then I gasped, realizing what he was asking me. He has never once…in our three-year relationship…allowed me to call him by his name in private. I love this man. Now I’m really glad I got this gift for him. I guess I will get two gifts tonight. “I…o-okay Fa-Faron.”
