Aria's Pov
Words alone couldn't describe just how furious I was at his shamelessness, first sending Mika and the others away, cutting off my escape route and practically threatening me to ride with him.
‘It's not a threat,’ a voice whispered in my head, ‘he’s asking.’
I scoffed, “using a myth to threaten me, darkwood doesn't exist.” I put up a brave font despite my pounding heart and weak knees.
He gave me a bored look, “time’s ticking, princess
Shit. He was gambling, I could see it in his eyes, but I couldn't take the risk.
“Fine. But I have a condition.” I snapped.
“Lets hear it then, if I'm in a good mood I'll consider it,”
My fist curled into a ball, I inhaled, goddess knew that I wanted nothing more than to slap that ugly smirk off his face.
Arrogant, annoying, jerk. How the hell did Elena put up with him? And how come I never noticed it before, or did her death turn him into whatever this sorry version of him was?
My lips moved, since he wanted me to ride with him so badly, I'll fulfill his wishes, “I ride in front”
He raised an eyebrow, surprise flickering past his eyes before they went back to its blank state.
“You can't ride,” he pointed out.
“Time's ticking.” I threw his words at him, something like pride swelled in my head.
He nodded, jumping down, his eyes carrying a hint of amusement, “after you princess.”
Throwing my leg over the other side I hopped in, I didn't process the consequences of what I had asked for until I felt his body heat.
My heart sank, his body towered over mine, blocking even the sun, he leaned in, closer than I envisioned, wrapping his hands and mine on the throttle.
Heat bloomed on my cheeks, “S..s..shift back” I stuttered, realizing just how terrible my request actually was.
“And have you kill us? Not yet princess.” He chuckles, “you'll soon get your turn, but for now, hold on tight.” With that the bike roared to life and he sped off.
My heart nearly leaped into the thin air just from the speed and I thought Mika was fast? Cain is outright crazy and not to mention how tightly I was pressed against him, I couldn't think straight not to mention breathing.
My hair scattered on every direction, even with the helmet on, it still found its way,
“Slow down” I screamed at the top of my voice.
He responded with a chuckle, “No can do princess” the speed increased, we caught up with the others and even surpassed them.
The further we went the chiller the air became, even the day darkened unnaturally, my heart nearly leaped into my arms on sighting what was before us.
A long endless bridge, carved with skulls, some in their wolf form, some in their human form, the bridge rumored to have no end.
“You can't be serious. It actually exists” I muttered, “forged from the bones of everyone who failed to pass,”
Cain’s voice turned solemn, “Aria, shut your eyes,”
I didn't need to be told twice, shutting my eyes I sank into Cain’s body, with only one word echoing deep in my head.
Madman.
I'm mated to a madman.
“Who is she?” A soft voice echoed, I nearly opened my eyes but Cain pressed me deeper into him with one hand,
“Stay,” he whispered.
“My mate” he replied, the bike was still moving, with engines roaring behind us, except it had gone slower now.
“Wolf. You promised, no strangers on my mountain. Except for your pack of exiles, I want to see her.”
He growled, “Keep your eyes off my mate,”
The voice fell silent briefly, “She smells like trouble, you won't let me lift it off you? I smell your blood on her, but something else too, something darker.” It continued.
“She’s mine”
The voice turned deep, “She will be your downfall wolf” then only the sound of tires remained, she was gone? I didn't dare open my eyes, not even when I felt the heavy air lift.
“With the way you're pressed into me I'm beginning to think you just might enjoy my company a little more than you let on,” Cain whispered smugly.
I blinked my eyes open, pushing away from him, “you wish”
He only responded with a chuckle.
I looked around, we were surrounded by trees and rocks but the bikes rode in a clear path, obviously it was a frequently used route.
I couldn't believe it, the same bridge which no one had ever survived or crossed, an endless bridge that packs sent those on a death row to, had life beyond it?
“It doesn't make sense. How?”
“I'm special,” he replied smugly.
I rolled my eyes, “Sure, remind me to add narcissism to your newly developed character traits.”
“You keep giving me reasons to believe you're obsessed with me, not that I blame you though.”
I was dumbfounded for a moment, unable to believe the height of his shamelessness, “Go away.”
“We'd have an accident if I did,” he said bluntly.
I groaned, “you're freaking impossible.”
“I'll take that as a compliment.”
I ignored him, I wasn't wasting my time on someone difficult to converse with.
“Remember when I said you would have your turn soon?” His voice carried something deep in it.
“Huh?”
“Since you want to ride us, which I presume is why you're seated in front, the rein is all yours, try not to kill us.”
He slowed down, the bike came to a crawling pace before he removed his hands leaving just mine.
“Woah” I held on tightly, “Are you trying to get us killed? I can't ride.”
“Learn,” he said casually, “we won't die. Not while I'm here” he said without a care.
With a deep breath I traced his movement, the bike jerked forward, my heart skipped a beat,
“Go on.” He encouraged patiently.
I pushed on again relying solely on what I remembered from the movement of his hands.
The bike jerked forward again, roared to life and sped off,
I panicked “s**t, why is it doing that?”
He made no effort to help, instead he spread his hands “You're in control, let it follow your guide princess”
“Cain, do something.” I yelled, we were nose diving in the wrong way, and pretty quickly at that.
“Say please and I'll consider.”
I kept turning the handles, squeezing everything I could, instead like it had a mind of its own the bike kept nosediving.
We were approaching a cliff at an alarming speed, meanwhile Cain looked like he was enjoying a field trip.
“Cainnnnn” I screamed at the top of my voice.
