Reeza set in front of her large mirror staring into her eyes, watching her servant gently brush her thick black hair. She looked so much like him, sometimes she thought about touching herself. "Why was he the one?" She thought then took a deep sigh. Reeza had watched him hold her mother countless times, secretly looking through the crack in the door. She was ashamed but she regretted nothing. Taking his place, becoming just like him was her number 1 priority. She had already taken up the mantle of billionaire CEO, now all she needed was the woman. The woman he claimed not to love but dedicated 15 years of his night to.
The servant backed away from Reeza. Her hairstyle made her look like the Goddess Hecate, the extra low neck lined dress, did the rest. When she walked her train danced on the light breeze. She only wore light makeup but she was clearly flawless.
When Reeza arrived at the ball, the chauffeur came around and opened the door. A host for the charity ball collected her leading hand within his white gloved hand, and guided her from the vehicle. The crowd paused in time to gaze upon the goddess. Then the sound of flashing cameras and people yelling 'Look this way' filled the red carpet. Reeza stopped every 20 feet and posed. The photographers were eating it up. The cameras and the people loved her. "If they only knew how much like Hecate I am." Reeza thought to herself.
She walked into the large hall and took in the deep smell of wealth. The area had many people in it but it still smelled like everything was brand new.
A short stout man rushed to Reeza,
"Thank you so much for being here. If you are ready, may I lead you to your booth. Are you aware of the raffle for a dance with you?" The short man said while walking and talking. His belly slightly bounced with his excitement.
"Wait. What are you talking about?"
"Yes, every year the guest speaker, and founder of the organization, dances one dance with the winner of our raffle."
"No I wasn't aware." Reeza was not pleased with this news. Lana did not mention anything to her.
The stout man read Reeza's expression and continued, "I was only wondering if you were aware. Ms. Stacy said she would be handling the dance in your stead. Since she is a co-founder. This is not outside of the rules and the raffle winner did not have any concerns. She is quite a sweet young lady. Did she know you wouldn't want to dance.... perhaps?" He paused and looked towards Reeza as they arrived at Reeza's booth.
"Not sure." Reeza was surprised. Lana had come to the charity ball because she'd forgotten to inform Reeza of some of her other duties. "That sly vixen." Reeza smiled and mumbled to herself.
Reeza's booth was fit for royalty and she expected nothing less. She looked out on the crowd, mingling and chattering among themselves. Some dancing, some lining the walls. This event was more lavish than she had expected. The crowd was a little overwhelming. Soon the event kicked off. Everyone settled down.
knock knock knock
The knocking sound startled Reeza, her head jerked back. "Coming in" Lana yelled as she walked in. She wore a sky blue silk dress that clung to every curve of her body. Her diamond accessory made her gray eyes look like waning moons on a clear spring night. Reeza couldn't breath. Her mortal enemy had a hold on her that she had never dealt with.
"Are you okay, Misses?" Lana asked.
"I'm fine. You look lovely." Reeza tried to pull herself together. Lana's perfume was light but the whole room smelled of springtime. Everything about her screamed Goddess of rebirth. If she had been introduced as Persephone, no one would’ve batted an eye.
"You are quite breathtakingly beautiful tonight. It's crazy how they found a dress that was so becoming of you in a short period of time." Lana's voice was so sweet and sincere. [How can I hate her?]
The 2 women sat in the booth and watched the crowd. They discussed fashion, money, and avoided talking about love. What they had at that moment was enough. Reeza was taken back at how funny Lana was. While she had quick snap backs when they argued, she didn't expect her to be genuinely witty.
Lana had a way of slightly touching the bottom of chin when she laughed. Reeza was pretty sure that she either did not like her laugh or was self conscious about how her face looked when she laughed. [She's beautiful.] Reeza wanted to take Lana's hand and tell her that everything she did was beautiful including the way she laughed.
While they were lost in their bonding, someone lightly knocked on the door and spoke, "Madam Hindrick, please make your way to the podium.
Reeza excused herself from the booth and made her way to the stage.
Lana watched Reeza exit the booth. She was amazed at how she made everything look so easy. Lana was sure she would have tripped over her gown if she wore what Reeza had on. Her conversation with Reeza was easy. She thought she would have argued at least twice and maybe even stormed out of the booth but nothing happened. They got along like 2 young ladies hanging out for the first time.
When Reeza came to the stage the lights flickered over her jewelry. The spot light embraced her. Every curve was accentuated. Her voice even sounded heavenly. "To be so perfect. She is definitely his daughter." Lana muttered. Reeza's speech even sounded like she had rehearsed it millions of times, not like she had written it earlier that day.
Lana wanted to continue what they were having together in that booth. Deep inside there was a soul crushing weight she couldn't remove from her heart. Seeing Reeza in all of her glory, just made it heavier.
Reeza's speech went off without a hitch. She was funny, sincere, and she addressed future endeavors for the organization. She was meant to be where she was. Lana clapped along with all of the party goers. Reeza left the stage. The maestro asked the winner of the raffle drawing to come stand next to the stage.
"That's my cue." Lana whispered to herself.
As she was leaving the booth she passed Reeza. Reeza stopped and profusely thanked Lana for doing that for her. Lana was happy, she was happy. [How peculiar?] In such a short amount of time, they were operating as a team instead of mortal enemies.
Lana reached the entrance to the dance floor. A young tall man with dark brown hair and emerald green eyes waited for his dance. The charity director acknowledged he was the winner. Lana walked up to him and introduced herself. She went on to apologize for him getting the co-founder instead of the founder. When Lana made eye contact with the young man, she realized he was smiling ear to ear. He probably did not hear a word she had said.
The music started. The young man took her hand and guided Lana onto the dance floor.
From the booth, Reeza had a perfect view of the dance floor. The person who won the raffle was a very handsome young gentleman. He took the utmost care not to damage the exquisite flower he had been given an once in a lifetime chance to hold.
Reeza felt herself getting angry. That same day she couldn't get Lana to sway with her, let alone do a full waltz. "I did force her to dance with me." Reeza sighed. She understood that was the big difference between her and the tall champion gliding across the floor with her Lana. Reeza wanted Lana to dance with her. She wanted her to hold her hand, walk and talk with her. No pressure, no begging. That would be in a perfect world if that was what they lived in.
Reeza could tell the man was saying something to Lana. Lana kept looking into his eyes and giggling.
The song ended. The crowd applauded. The 2 looked like their bodies were made for each other. Lana exited the dance floor. She was ready to sit down and have a small glass of wine. Once she arrived at the booth, she lightly knocked then walked in.
"That was tiring." Lana said to Reeza.
"It looked like you were having fun. Was he a nice guy?"
"For the most part. Considering I've never met him before."
"Of course. " Reeza looked away from Lana. She wanted to be angry but she also wanted Lana.
Reeza gathered the last of her energy and confided in Lana, "After we talked, some of the things you have said to me, really got me thinking. I could use a friend like you. Someone who doesn't just take my s**t because I have money. Though I can't promise I won't occasionally be a bitch."
"So we would be like sisters, right?"
Reeza thought about it and she liked the idea. As sisters, she could be herself and not worry about losing Lana because a sister's love is unconditional.
