Chapter 65

1442 Words

Ella's POV The first light of dawn filtered in through the wide stone window, catching on the thin sheen of frost that coated the outer wall. It cast the room in pale gold, cutting through the shadows. Remo was still beside me, one arm curled tightly around my waist, his bare chest rising and falling in slow, deep breaths. I should've stayed still. Should've let this peace last. But peace never lasted long in our world. My eyes burned from lack of sleep, and the edges of yesterday bled into my thoughts. Dean's words echoed through me like rot: There's still a traitor among you. Someone close. I sat up slowly, not wanting to wake Remo. But I didn't get far. "You're thinking too loud," he murmured, voice deep and rough with sleep. I turned back, met his eyes—stormy and unblinking.
