Cursed with Two Mates

Some First Day

*I don’t know but I think we should listen to him.. let’s get out of here, it’ll be dark soon* Ruby replies timidly. It’s not like her to be nervous so I agree and turn to head back.

Out of the clearing Katie comes out followed by Xander and a boy I recognized from a couple of our classes.

“JADE THANK GOODNESS WE WERE WORRIED ABOUT YOU!” Katie calls out to me. “Wow look how pretty this place is,” she adds as she takes in the view.

My eyes glance to Xander and he freezes staring at me. I continue to watch as I see him react - his breathing changes, he twitches and I swear I hear the lowest growl come out.

That’s when I remember - IM NAKED.

oh nonononono. I panic and dive back into the water. “I’ll be right over” I call out swimming back across the lake.

*Jeeze how did he get to me and take me all the way back across the lake so fast?* I wonder as I take some time to swim across.

*I don’t know. Maybe he really is a vampire? Like in the dream* Ruby replies suspiciously.

The others stop and wait for me to get to them.

“What are you doing clear out here so late?” Xander asks, obviously annoyed.

“I went for a run, Ruby doesn’t get out much living in a human town.” I swim close to the edge. Ugh am I going to have to climb out naked?

“Well it’s time to go. Let’s shift and run back.” Xander turns towards the tree line to undress. Followed by the other guy.

Katie waits a beat for me to get to the edge looks back to Xander, looks back to me and wiggles her eyebrows.

I chuckle and begin to climb out as she turns away.

I shift and let Ruby come out looking at our reflection in the lake. Ruby is all white with a black marking on her hip - the same birthmark I have on mine. I’ve always thought it looks like an ankh with an arrangement of dots surrounding it. She has the same big blue eyes as me, but when she’s really angry I swear I’ve seen them turn red. That’s how she got her name.

Xander emerges first and comes up beside me - he’s HUGE, jet black, with his same piercing blue eyes. Even though Ruby is big for a female wolf, she still looks small next to him. His wolf locks eyes with Ruby and they begin sniffing eachother curiously.

*Even in wolf form he’s ruggedly handsome.* I say to her.

When I see the others pop out Xander bows down on his paws as if to signal that it’s time we go and takes off sprinting.

Ruby leaps after him. She’s fast - faster than Katie and the other, and she catches up to Xander’s wolf quickly. They race back to the school together getting there in half the time.

I go back to my dress and emerge to find Xander shirtless. My heart flutters - of course he has a perfect 8 pack. Does he have to look like a model all the time?

I’m still catching my breath from the run when I approach him.

“What are you thinking running around alone at night??” His tone is sharp - he’s mad.

“What do you mean? It’s not night and I was perfectly fine.” I say defensively.

“Do you even know these woods?? You could have been attacked by vampires and none of us would have been here to protect you!” He's scolding me.

“Vampires? Why would they hurt us?” I’m surprised. Looking away thinking about my encounter.

“Wow you really are clueless. We have truces with some covens but just like rogue wolves there are always threats in all species we need to be careful around.”

He struck an uncomfortably sensitive cord with that.

“Well just like rogue wolves I’m sure not all are out to hurt us,” I snap back.

He exhales “I didn’t mean to offend you. I just want you to be careful. Take your friend if you’re going running at night again, or better yet - stick to the school grounds. There’s plenty of room and lots of people around to help if something happens.””

“Yes alpha,” I roll my eyes at him.

The air between us shifts as he reacts to my words. I look up at him and see his eyes darken and I hear his heart speed up.

He tilts his head “you want me to be your alpha Jade?” His voice is lower, more raspy.

I react instinctively, core tightening, breath speeding up face flushing.

“Answer me,” he commands with his alpha voice.

“Maybe” I blurt out looking at the ground - wait did he just alpha command me? I didn’t think he can do that if I’m not in his pack..

He chuckles at how quickly I responded to him and gently tilts my chin up with his hand, locking his eyes with mine. His eyes flicker down to my lips.

Is he going to kiss me?

I lick my lips in anticipation unsure of what to do now. This is not what I expected from werewolf school.

Just then Katie and her friend emerge finally having caught up. Xander takes a step back and turns towards the school.

“Girl you sure know how to make an entrance!” The guy says as we watch Xander storm off. “I’m Toby, Katie’s friend.”

“Nice to meet you Toby. Yeah fall on my face, constantly covered in food and having a search party come find me. Some first day.”

“Well I agree that you are something else! Girl’s got ladyballs!” Katie laughed “for real just ask next time, Kayla , my wolf, is always happy to come for a run!”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” I smile.

“Let’s get inside - I don’t want detention on my first day and I need to rest for training tomorrow.” Toby says.

We smile and head to the dorms laughing at the day we had. Maybe it won’t be so bad here after all..
