Trente Neuf

Waking up warm without knowing that I slept cold inside this whole room, on the couch. I woke up with a bit of neck pain—it’s my fault that I just carried one pillow for my mom and none for me. I hold my neck and tried to rotate it and its…painful as f**k. “Stiff neck?” my mom asked, as she took all the food in the paper. I nod my head and reached for my phone wondering what is the time now. It’s only 7 in the morning and my mom was here with our breakfast, so I guessed she woke up early than me and decided to go outside. I stretched my arms and legs, fold the blanket, and join my mother to eat breakfast. While sipping on my coffee my mother suddenly broke the silence and asked. “When will your father wake up?” I glanced at her and dad, and breathe out. “I don’t know too, mom” I felt bad for not knowing when because I want him to wake a so badly now. “Let’s…just wait…a little longer,” I added. I finished my toast without any thoughts inside my head. I sighed for the nth time as I quickly finished my coffee, I want more but I guess I can’t have a refill. I put the dishes and wash them, while mom cleaned the table after our errands in the room—I get my towel and extra clothes and head to the bathroom. we are lucky we able to get a private room with a toilet and bath. It took 10 minutes to finish a nice bath. This will be my first time showering in a hospital. I faint laugh at the thought of a hospital and not a hotel, but anyways whichever it is it’s the same. I get out with my towel around my head. I get myself ready and also my backpack where the paper of authorization is in, I just realized that will they contact Aryn’s mother about it or not, nevertheless, I am ready. Johan is much smarter than me, I mean I looked at my inbox and Johan is telling or suggesting I change the unknown/new number into his mother while it has a message “Please do me a favor and get the records of January. If they asked you just make them look at this and the authorization letter.” So I can just get away with any possible chances of them reaching out to his mother or else we are all doomed. “Mom!” I said catching her off guard, looks like she is staring too hard at the bills. I went to her and massage her shoulder and uttered. “I will take care of that mom!” she looked at me with sad eyes and just reciprocate it with a smile. “I will go now, mom. Take care!” she nodded and I exited the room. I immediately texted Mr. Martin and he decided to go to the café in town—which is a 15 minutes ride. I fixed the strap of my bag on my shoulder and walked towards the elevator, exited the building, and walk towards the bus stop. I also texted my bestie in Paris who is now living her life. I sometimes get jealous of Aryn, because, first she is something that people love. Secondly, she achieves what people want her to be while I am just a nobody starting without any future pathway. It’s a few useless reasons but yeah…that’s MY reasons and if I see the brighter side…maybe…I can have something that belongs to me. it can be anything, or I can and will be anything as long as it’s mine. The bus arrived at some time around, and I get in when all the passengers get out of the vehicle and choose my favorite spot, it will always be in the window as I enjoy the scenery but it’s winter now and all I can see is white snow and branches with no leaves. It’s still beautiful even if it looks lonely and cold, black and white, as long as the sun still shines. I put my hands in the pockets of the padded jackets as the bus has its air conditioner on during winter. I also observed people glaring at the unbothered driver and most of their hands are shaking or some is just like me. After 15 minutes ride to town I finally arrived, it’s short so I don’t feel numbness in my feet. I walked around finding the café, Mr. Martin reserved or choose to meet up with. I looked like a dumb tourist but I can’t do anything as I am not that familiar with the place and it looks like it is different from the town Aryn and I went to, last time. I scratched my head and ended up questioning myself if I am really in the right town, not until I received a call from him. “What a great timing!” I muttered under my breath and answered the call. “Hello!” he greeted me. “Hi! I’m sorry I think I’m lost!” “Really? I think I can see you?” he informed me that he can see me from afar. “Looked at your back, and find a blue retro theme café.” He instructed me and I followed and ended up fooling myself. It’s not my fault that the sign is barely visible on how old it looks like, I don’t think they want to re-paint that or even re-do the whole. I shook my head as I walk towards the café. I can’t wait to go there and to feel some heat. “Finally!” he exclaimed. “Well, it’s not my fault that the café sign looks old,” I remarked without minding that I can be heard or not, well, I am just stating facts here. I heard him let out a chuckle behind his mouth. “What?” I asked. He fakely coughed and went on serious mode. I rolled my eyes and just grab my bag and opened it and get the paper out of it. “So…er…it’s here now!” I said. “it’s pretty all that you need and it is original and not fake, even the notary.” He seems surprised and amused with how the work went out nicely. If he just knows how I feel, but whatever, I just hope that whatever it is it will work out. “Nicely done!” he praised. “Thank you for this.” He put the paper in his bag, carefully not letting something crumple or mess the paper once it’s in the bag. I remembered about the other plan or the backup thing for, whenever, they will be on verge of getting doomed by how the security system the Caen’s hospital has, and said. “So I have here a number, a fake one, it will look like you have been received Aryn’s mother will to let you get the thing you needed.” “Thank you!” he repeated. “You can eat your lunch here and have a take-out with you when you go back. Don’t worry I will pay for it as a pay for what you did.” “You don’t need to actually but you said it so I will not decline it anymore. Thanks!” I said. We ordered and ate and finally bid goodbye. I have the food in the container that he paid for and I walked back to the bus and go back home.
