Chapter 7: IQ Too High

1918 Words
The University of Chicago is a private university founded by John Rockefeller in 1891. It is a co-educational, non-religious research university, and many teachers and students of this school have won Nobel Prizes. Part of the results of the Manhattan Project was achieved in this university. In 1942, they built the world's first controllable nuclear reactor in the squash hall of the University of Chicago, which reached a critical state and produced a controllable nuclear fission chain reaction. This is an important milestone in the era of atomic energy, laying the foundation for the birth of the atomic bomb two years later, and the University of Chicago is therefore called the "birthplace of atomic energy." The American oil tycoon Rockefeller once boasted: "My best investment is the University of Chicago!" Alex knew that their destination was the University of Chicago, but didn't know the $500 compensation fee. He thought it was the two professors who convinced his parents. Sitting in a vehicle sent by the University of Chicago, he looked at the street and pedestrians outside through the window of the car. Along the way, only a few words from the Carpenters were heard, and everyone was not very interested in talking. In the United States in the 1940s, it was at the stage of great development that many streets in Chicago were under construction. However, we can already see the future prosperity, with various shops and shops coming and going. The old-fashioned billboards are shining and eye-catching under the sunlight. The weather today is very good, the sun is shining, and it is warm and radiant on people. After getting out of the car, the Carpenters family walked along a boulevard on the university campus under the guidance of people sent by the school. On both sides of this cobblestone road, half-person-high shrubs are planted, and beside the shrubs are neat palm trees. Sunlight penetrated the lush woods and spilled on them. The light spots were like light veils on their bodies, which could be touched by reaching out. After walking a long way, they came to a building. This is a research building, and many people in white coats go in and out. Soon, Alex saw the expert who presided over the test. There are five people, all of them seem to be university professors. They heard that a child with a very high IQ was coming for a test, and when they were curious, they all came over to take a look. In this era, I am very keen on IQ tests. It is said that someone has calculated that Da Vinci's IQ is as high as 220, but no one has seen it. Einstein, the great scientist of this era, has tested it, and he only has an IQ of 160. After a few greetings, the test begins. They took out a chronograph and test questions. Alex was asked to use the fastest speed to do a variety of problems. These questions are strange, some are simple, some are complicated, and some are quite difficult. Fortunately, Alex has superpowers. With this ability, Alex can almost find the answer. Even if there is no answer, Alex will use "simulated memory" to simulate the person he thinks is the smartest, and to do the problem by simulating the thinking of others. When the question is finished and the test is over, the professors immediately calculate Alex's IQ. They quickly arrived at the result, but the number is very staggering. "My God, it reached 220!" a professor couldn't help exclaiming on the spot. Some people do not believe it and say: "Is the test wrong? How could it be so high." "Maybe the formula for calculating the IQ is wrong. When the age of the test person is too low, the greater the deviation of the calculated IQ." "No, I don't think the formula is wrong. It is the wrong choice of the question. It is impossible to test the level of IQ only by doing the question. Various methods must be combined, such as testing whether the thinking reaction is quick, testing language ability and memory and many more!" Everyone was clamoring and talking about their opinions. In this era, some people are very superstitious about IQ tests, and some people think such tests are unscientific. In particular, when Alex's test reached 220 points, they all doubted whether this score was accurate. Some people wanted to test it again, but they were rejected by the Carpenters. Especially Angel, she is worried that this kind of test will cause psychological pressure on Alex. "We're leaving now! You didn't help at all in this way!" Angel was angry, and she insisted that she must go back immediately. Bart and Alex didn't want to stay longer, the people here were terrifying. Alex discovered that after these professors worked out, they looked at him differently. He even wondered if these professors were planning to use him as a white mouse. Why are those eyes a little scary? After doing this, Alex's name of genius was finally confirmed. The Carpenters became more and more used to indulging him, letting him do what he wanted to do. Especially Angel, she has always valued this son. "This must be a gift from God and a meaningful gift!" Angel muttered to himself. The professors surrounded Alex, trying to find something from him, but they were stopped by the Carpenters. Tell them not to target Alex in this way, and emphasize not to tell the results of this test. The Carpenters did not want their son to live in a life of being watched from an early age. This would not only trouble the children, but even adults like them. "The test must have gone wrong! The test method must be modified, and the calculation formula must also be adjusted." "It's best to let this child test again with a new question to see how big the error is!" While they were arguing, the Carpenters quietly left the University of Chicago. Before returning, Bart received compensation for this test from a professor. What made them even more happy was that Alex had no problem, it was just that his IQ was too high. With regard to this IQ problem, professors are fighting over and over. Some people say there is a problem with the test method, some say there is a problem with the calculation formula, and some people simply deny the correctness of the IQ test. In any case, they believe that Alex's IQ is indeed higher than that of ordinary children. As for how much higher it is, no one can tell. What the experts couldn't determine, Alex was even more confused. He knows that his memory is superb, and that he can imitate other people's thinking and so on. However, what he didn't expect was that he actually got an IQ of 220 for him. He didn't think he was smart, he was still him, and he didn't think he could write a theory more powerful than the theory of relativity. The Carpenters are ordinary people, their ideas are simpler, they are thinking about how to educate their children. "Angel, what do you want Alex to learn?" After returning home, Bart couldn't wait to ask his wife. He was on the road and kept thinking about this question. After listening to Angel, he felt a little surprised. After all, Bart had never cared about Alex's education before that. She said: "As long as Alex is interested, you can learn anything." "Interested?" Bart murmured, and then left thoughtfully. What Alex didn't know was that in order to better nurture him, the parents discussed it many times in secret. At this time, he was still immersed in his own abilities. He found that as his body grew, he became more and more proficient in the use of abilities. One day, he suddenly thought of whether he could freely change the content of his memory. For example, he wrote a poem today, and when he recalls it tomorrow, he will revise the content of that poem in his memory. If it can be modified, then he can create creation in his head, and then take it out after everything is done. At the beginning, he found that this idea was a bit outrageous. However, he still tried to do it. He found that his memory could be modified, and he could still recall it after modification. In the beginning, he just modified the text, and slowly, he involved memorizing the colors, light, objects, etc. in the scene. However, after a few days, he found that his modified memory would return to its original state. "What's going on?" Alex was puzzled. He obviously modified the memory of the past, and he remembered that it was modified, but his memory turned back. "Is this like memory metal, as long as a period of time passes, it will recover?" His past memory has a correction effect, and when he no longer concentrates on the modified memory, it will soon return to the original memory. In the end, he is no longer satisfied with recalling past memories, he wants to create memory scenes by himself. Only in this way can he make a memory scene that will no longer be restored after modification. So he closed his eyes and thought of an object, which could be any object. Put this object in a blank scene, he can control the size, shape, color, etc. of the object through his thoughts. He can even feel the material, weight, and temperature of this object... Alex found that he could do such a thing, but it was too exhausting. It usually needs to reach the level of five senses memory to freely control the objects in the memory scene he creates. In this way, he can only last for a short period of time every day, slowly enriching the things in that scene. This continuous creation and modification quickly gave him a memory scene that never existed in reality. "Damn! Isn't this a so-called virtual space? Or a semi-independent plane?" When Alex was in the memory scene he created, he was stunned. This is almost similar to the personal space described in the novel, except that you cannot put real objects in it, and other than that, it is no different from the real space. In order to save energy, Alex created this scene as a room. In this room, there are doors, windows, tables, TVs, beds, quilts, wardrobes, toilets and so on. The sun shines into the house through the windows, and looking out from the inside, the outside is the brightest moment before the sunset. The things outside the room are just realistic scenery, which Alex extracted from memory, not as real as the things he created. However, this is already very powerful, and Alex feels like he has more room to go. Everything he did in this space will be preserved instead of restoring to the original state like the memory scenes of the past. Alex didn't know the use of creating this personal space. The biggest advantage was that he could let his spirit hide here to rest. Slowly, he felt nothing interesting. It’s a rest, but it’s actually more tiring. After all, when you open a space, you need the five senses. Unable to think of any use, he just tossed this space aside and waited for it to come out later when needed.
