21 Petron’s first step through the conduit landed him on solid stone ground, and he almost tripped over himself as his boot hit, his body expecting the sensation of falling like the last time he had travelled this way. But there was no free-fall, no ice surface to skid across, searching for the next conduit to enter, just a dimly lit stone hallway, no wider than a metre or so, stretching straight out in front of him. Perhaps this was a result of him using the conduit correctly this time, activating it and giving it a clear destination instead of simply stepping through and relying on Frankle to guide them. Whatever the reason, Petron was sure he preferred this mode of travel. A plain, simple corridor. Solid stone under his feet. Much more sensible. He started to walk, then stopped immed
