33 Come. This way. The voice startled Heather out of her thoughts, and she stared further up the slope, squinting her eyes to try to penetrate the roiling smoke and mist that seemed to leak up out of the ground. The cat was somewhere further up there, out of sight, but she could see Daemi easily enough, the tall, rigid figure silhouetted against the red glow of the mountain, one hand resting on the hilt of her weld blade, obviously impatient. ‘I could use a hand, you know,’ Heather called out, her voice lost in the rumble and crack of rock that echoed around the area, the rocky ground under her feet seeming to shift slightly with each new sound, the mountain itself threatening to break apart beneath them.
