Chapter 4

GOODNEWS

"W... what's that? What does that mean?" Selena stuttered.

The doctor sighed, she stared at Nathan with so much pity in her eyes.

"Come with me to my office please, we'll talk more there." She said and walked towards her offfice.

"Please stay with Nathan," Selena said to Linda.

"Of course, you don't have to worry about anything, just go and hear what the doctor has to say, I'll be here with him."

"Thank you, Linda," Selena replied, she wiped off her tears, took one last look at her brother, then left.

Doctor's office...

Selena sat opposite the doctor, her legs couldn't stop shaking due to fear and nervousness.

"What's your name?." The doctor asked.

"Selena." She answered tearfully

"Okay Selena, I'm Doctor Mary, and I'll be the one in charge of your brother's case." Doctor Mary said. Selena nodded.

"As I said before, the patient is being diagnosed with a congenital heart disease, and it's very severe."

"W what does that mean, doctor?" Selena asks in fright. She could feel her heart almost flying out of her body.

Doctor Mary sighed.

"It means, he has a hole in his heart." She said. Selena gasp.

"N no, that's not possible, that can't be possible." Selena cried.

"You'll have to pull yourself together Selena, this is not the time to be weak, the patient needs to undergo surgery, and we need to carry out the surgery urgently, otherwise, I'm afraid for the inevitable."

"No," Selena yelled.

"Please doctor, nothing should happen to Nathan , he's the only one I've got, please save my brother doctor, please, I'm begging you." Selena cried bitterly.

"H how much will his surgery cost?."

Doctor Mary looked at her for some time, judging from the look of things, she didn't think Selena can afford it, but there was nothing she can do, they'll need to deposit part of the bill so they can't start with his treatments as soon as possible.

"His surgery will cost 1•5 million dollars."

Selena felt like a whole bucket of ice was being poured on her when she heard the amount, where will she get that kind of money from, it was already so difficult to feed and now this, how will she get that kind of money, but at the same time, she can't let her little brother die, he's all she's got, and she'll do anything to save her brother's life.

Selena walked into Nathan's ward, her face was so pale, her eyes were red and swollen due to so much crying.

Linda immediately rushed to her side when she saw her.

"What's wrong Selena? Why do you look like this? What did the doctor say?" Linda questioned.

"Linda." Selena managed to say, then she hugged Linda tightly before bursting into another round of tears.

"W what's wrong? What did the doctor say? Please, Selena, stop crying or I'll cry too, we need to be strong for Nathan, we wouldn't want him to wake up and see you like this, please Honey, pull yourself together." Linda said softly, at the same time, patting Linda's back in a comforting manner.

"What do I do Linda?" Selena said, then she pulled out of the hug.

"The doctor said Nathan has a hole in his heart and he needs urgent surgery, the money for his surgery is 1•5 million, what do I do Linda? I can't let anything bad happen to Nathan, Nathan can't die Linda?" Selena cried.

"Oh, God." Linda gasps.

"It's okay, it's okay, we'll find a way out of this, nothing bad will happen to him, nothing bad will happen to Nathan." Linda comforted.

"I don't even have a job or any savings, I've got nothing, so how will the miracle happen, how will I save my brother's life." Selena cried.

"Come here," Linda said, then she pulled Selena into a hug.

"Please lord, help us, Nathan can't die, we just can't lose Nathan too." Linda prayed silently.

"I'll be back soon okay, I'll go home and prepare something for you guys, please Selena, enough crying, we'll get through this together, okay," Linda said.

"Thank you, Linda, I appreciate all that you do for us," Selena said.

"It's nothing, babe, you're more than a friend to me, you're like my own sister, so no need to say thanks, I take Nathan as my little brother too." Linda smiled.

"I'll be back soon okay." She said. Selena nodded.

Linda went to give a sleeping Nathan a kiss on his forehead, then she left. Selena sighed, before going to sit beside Nathan.

"Nothing will happen to you Nathan, I promise to find a way." She said, she took her hand in his and kissed it.

A few hours later...

Linda rushed into Nathan's ward breathing heavily, she held a food flask in one hand and a flier in another.

"Jeez, what's wrong with you Linda?" Selena said, getting up to meet her.

"G Good news, I've got good news," Linda said, trying to catch her breath at the same time.

"Aunt Linda," Nathan called weakly, and that was when Linda noticed he was awake.

"Oh my God Nathan." Linda smiled, she dropped the food flask on the floor and rushed to Nathan's side.

"Goodness." Selena rolled her eyes, moved towards the food flask on the floor, picked it up and dropped it on the little table beside Nathan's bed.

"How are feeling honey? Are you in any kind of pain?" Linda questioned worriedly. Nathan smiled.

"No Aunt Linda, I'm fine, a nice nurse gave me some injections, and I'm not in any pain," Nathan said softly. Linda laughed.

"That's better, be a good boy and get well soon okay, I and Selena will make sure to take good care of you," Linda said. Nathan nodded with a smile.

"What's the good news, Linda?" Selena asked, and Linda fixed her gaze on her.

"Here," Linda said, giving the flier in her hand to Selena.

Selena collected the flier and stared closely at it. She was surprised to see what it was. No wonder Linda ran to her, this was a miracle.

"It's an advert for the post of secretary." She gasps. Linda smiled.

"Yes girl, on my way home, I saw a man pasting this on the wall and I immediately snatched a flier from him. He told me the secretary is needed urgently."

"Wow."

"And that's not all babe, guess the person who needs a secretary."

"Who?" Selena asked curiously

"Zavier Salvador, CEO of Zavier's corporation."
