Chapter One- I need to have him.

1351 Words
Kyla I arrive at my parents for the BBQ they are having to celebrate my finally attending university. I think they believed it would never happen. They never put any pressure on me to go, but I made a promise to them back when I was a teenager I would go, eventually. I have always been a bit of a wild one, a person who does what they want rather than told. I travelled for a few years straight out of high school, then worked so I could get an apartment, but here I am, twenty-four years old and finally going to study again. Classes start in a week. I told my parents not to do anything for me, but I should have known better; they wouldn’t have listened to me. I am looking forward to it, though. Good company, food and drinks. I am close to my family, so I enjoy spending time with them. My friends will be here too. I will be surrounded by everyone who means the most to me. I head inside, through the house and out back. It would seem that almost everyone is already here. I am running a little late. My timekeeping is shocking, but everyone is used to it. “It is nice for you to join us.” Mom laughs when her eyes fall on me. I snicker and hug her, “I am not that late. Like twenty minutes.” “For you, that is early.” She teases, hugging me back. When we part, I make sure to greet everyone else, too, before getting myself a scotch on the rocks and sitting down with my friends. I glance around and realise someone is missing. My brother, Daniel, isn’t here, which is unusual because he is always on time. “Mom, where is Daniel?” I ask. I know he will show up because he wouldn’t not come. Daniel and I have a close relationship, even though he is eight years older than me. We have had our fights like any other siblings, but we always get over them. It may sound cliché, but my big brother is one of my best friends. He is protective of me, but it works both ways. I once knocked some grown man clean on his ass because he was trying to get in Daniel’s face. He isn’t one for confrontation, and neither am I, usually, but I wasn’t going to let the i***t hurt my brother. “He is on his way. He was picking up a friend before he came.” She smiles. I know all his friends, so I don’t mind him bringing one. I am surprised he isn’t bringing more than one. “Do you want to go out tonight after the BBQ?” my best friend, Melody, asks. “Hell yeah. Always a yes for that.” I answer. I always like to have a good time. You only live once, right? “I told you she would say yes.” Claire pipes in. It is Saturday, and Saturday nights are always fun. I don’t have work tomorrow, which means I will be out until the clubs close. I will need to change before because I am too casual to go clubbing. I prefer a dress and heels when I go out, but I have shorts, a tank tee and a pair of Converse, not club attire. I catch up with my friends since we have not seen much of one another this week. We have been busy with work and classes, and Claire has a one-year-old daughter, so she is always busy, but her husband has the baby tonight to give her a night off since she is a stay-at-home mom. Suddenly, Melody choked on her drink, spitting it out. “What the hell?” I laugh. “Who is that with Daniel? I haven’t seen him before. Trust me, I would remember.” She asks. I look at her, confused. We have met all of Daniel’s friends. I turned around, and the second my eyes fell on the guy who nearly made her choke, I soon realised I had definitely not met him before. “Damn,” I groan. Whoever he is, he is damn sexy. He must be at least six feet tall, his hair dark, longish and slicked back. He has beautiful eyes, too, dark eyes, I believe. His jawline is sharp, and by what I can see under the white tee he has on, he has a body that he takes good care of. I lick my lips as I run my eyes over an inch of the beautiful specimen. Everything he is, is a weakness for me when it comes to men. Where has my brother been hiding him? “You should go say hello,” Melody smirks and encourages me with a nudge. I don’t respond due to being too occupied. The handsome stranger must have felt us staring because he glanced around. His eyes fall directly on me, and I flash my prettiest smile in his direction. He smiles back, and it is as charming as the rest of him. “Go.” Claire chuckles. I nod and finish off my scotch before I jump to my feet. I smooth out my tee, run my fingers through my hair and stroll over confidently. He’s watching my every move. I don’t think I am the only one whose interest has been piqued. However, I am sure he may change his mind when he finds out I am Daniel’s little sister. “What time do you call this, bro? And who is your friend?” I ask sweetly as I approach. My brother doesn’t need to know I am attracted to his friend. The stranger’s eyes soon focused anywhere other than me. “I know. I am sorry, little sis. Traffic was terrible.” He apologises and hugs me. I hug back, my eyes falling on the sexy stranger, his eyes meeting mine again. I smirk and wink at him. He seems taken aback and rubs his neck nervously. I bite my lip to stop from giggling and separate from the hug. “Kyla, this is Carlos. A new friend. Carlos, my little sister Kyla.” He introduces. I offer my hand to him, which he takes, “It is nice to meet you, Carlos.” I play innocent when I talk to him. His tongue darts along his lips, “Thank you. Nice to meet you too, Kyla.” My name runs off his tongue so smoothly, his grip a little tighter than it needs to be. I like a man with strong hands. I slowly run my tongue over my lips before I tug my lower lip between my teeth. I see Carlos swallowing hard, but thankfully, my brother is oblivious to what is happening. Carlos drops my hand first and places his hands by his side, diverting his attention away from me. “Come on, I will introduce you to everyone and get us a drink.” Daniel smiles, and they walk away. I rejoin my friends at the table. “I need to have him.” I blurt out. “Who is he?” Claire asks. “Carlos. A new friend of Daniel’s.” “Is that a good idea, going after a friend of Daniel’s? Do you want Carlos to be a dead man?” Melody laughs. “He doesn’t need to know. It will be one night, nothing more. My brother will be none the wiser.” I reply confidently with a shrug. “Oh, you are so naughty.” Claire giggles. “I know, but I want him. I usually get what I want.” It is true, I do. I always have. I have always been confident in myself and the person I am. I don’t hold back from anything. And I want Carlos, so I shall get him, one way or another. He is clearly attracted to me, too, so it shouldn’t be an issue. I can be sneaky when I need to be.
